Yes that is the thread I was referring to - Yo will need to go through a process commonly known as 'debranding'. After following these steps you will lose your Vodafone specific firmware (So I'm not sure how this will affect the passport scheme you mentioned - Maybe you could explain to me what it is?). Your warranty may also be affected, but this is down to personal judgement of whether or not you really need it. Debranding is very, very, very common practice here and is recommended by almost all who have done it

Thanks!
I found a link through your link: How To: Update Firmware, Debranding, and/or Change Language Pack on the Nokia N95 : The Nokia Blog and that worked for me, with the n95 8gb code from your list! I do indeed have Dutch now. I am worried though what will happen now with my contract with vodafone, if all features are still active. That would be difficult to explain to the shop no? The phone seems to function as it should, but because it is brand new, I will never now if there has been extra unwanted changes I guess. :-) edit passport is a feature that if you are abroad and you are being called from the uk you pay once 75p and the rest of the minutes will be deducted off the contract minutes. Also if you call from abroad to a uk number, if connected to a vodafone network, you get the same deal, once 75p, the rest off your contract minutes. What more vodafone specifics could I be losing? I just have a 35pounds contract for 18months, 750 minutes and 250 texts. (ps, WAN surfing also comes off your minutes right?) I know I have a lot of questions, but I am new to this game. First advanced phone :-) Last edited by pby5a; 01-22-2008 at 02:10 AM. |

It sounds like the features you're mentioning are all part of your network bundle - This will not be affected by the phone itself whatsoever. All that changing your firmware will have done, is removed all the Vodafone branding on the phone (I.e. The brand themes, brand software etc.), so this shouldn't affect you in any way at all.
You mentioned 'WAN' surfing, which I'm assuming you meant as 'WLAN' surfing (Internet access over WiFi) - This does not cost you anything whatsoever on your phone bill. Using WiFi at home is simply like connecting another computer to your network, which means the only charges incurred are the ones you are already receiving on the land line. Public WiFi hotspots work in a slightly different manner and will prompt for charges before use, but the same rules apply |

Sorry, I ment WAP, but indeed the surfing with wap comes off my minutes. Just was on the phone with Vodafone service dept, and they helped me out quite nice. Reconfigured Vodafone live so I am able to WAP again. This was disabled after rebranding.
Still I lost one more thing only (besides ALL my contacts: two heheheh :-) and all my pictures: one), thats the key for the Spiderman movie. I have now an invalid key, the movie is still there though. I will have to call Nokia and request a new key. Hopefully this will work and then I basically have everything back. I believe I also lost Google Earth on my phone, but I have been told I can download this quite easily. This means I am very happy, having Dutch dictionary is worth alot to me. |

I'm glad you're happy with the result! Hopefully you will enjoy the general bug fixes and improvements of the new firmware too :)
