Default Nokia 6500 Slide - Your thoughts?

Hi all,

I have been an avid fan of N95Users.com for some time but this is my first adventure into the unknown ... ie. forums related to other Nokia devices!

My other half has a 6500 Slide which I bought her for Christmas. The problem she has is that the wallpaper keeps resetting to default and I think (although I cannot be certain) I think the settings revert to default when this happens too, although no data is lost.

From time to time it will freeze also, meaning that the battery has to be removed to restart the phone.

I have read elsewhere that the phone is known to freeze after a missed call in some cases (certain firmware I believe) and although this happens rarely, it is not always following a missed call.

I am not sure of the f/w version at the moment but will update later.

Anyone have any thoughts in the meantime? I am looking at updating the firmware for her in the hope this will resolve the issues but am a little reluctant to do so not knowing the device as I do my N95!

Anything I should be wary about?

Cheers

Thanks. I'm going to have a look at updating the firmware and see if that resolves it.

Anyone know of a guide for updating this device? Is it just a question of linking up to the Nokia S/W Updater - in which case I assume I can use the same one as I do for my N95?

I was always a candybar man, then went flipphone.
But now i have the whole 'once you go slider you'll never go back' perspective. And the whole time i've never strayed from Nokia

Yeah- it's hard for me to pay much attention to a non-slider as well after the N95. Even with build quality issues, I firmly believe in the form factor. Even the N82 I've got here- just doesn't do the same for me as the N95 does.

Now I'm playing around with the N810- another slider, and it's HOT.

The leaked images of the E71 interest me, and I'm curious about the new rumored Nseries qwerty that is also reported to be a non-slider. I'm interested- but I love my sliders...

BullSh**, the N810!!!?
How is it?!!!!!
I cant wait for it to get to Australia.
I know how you feel about the N82, i'd much rather the N81 just for the slide/form, but never compared the specs of them.

Yeah- the specs of the N81 are just miserable for an N95 user. I really like the design of it, but it's just not for me with the silly little camera and the lack of all the other features. For what it is, I think the price point is far too high.

Yeah- the N810... It's a MAGNIFICENT device. It's certainly not without a few subtle flaws- but nothing that would stop me from dropping the ~420 USD on it. I'm absolutely in love with the device- the smaller size, the side mounted speakers, the qwerty. I really do love it so far.

You can expect a full review of the kit shortly after I've put it through it's paces a bit more.

No, no GSM communication. The device only has WiFi and Bluetooth radios. It is intended to operate in conjunction with a cellular device via wireless bluetooth tethering or data via WiFi when in range of such a network.

It can perform VOIP calls, but no GSM.
