Default The US N95-3, supported elsewhere?

So, the N95-3 with all that extra RAM is something to make any of us early adopters of the N95 drool, and all reports around the net suggest that has really made a massive difference and has been backed up by our very own PseudoFinn.

So the question is, what other countries will the US N95-3 work in? Has anyone got any official information?

Yep- it will work no where else. The 3G chip is not compatible with the global markets like the current model, or the 8GB variant, only AT&T's network. It won't even work on the TMobile network in the US.

It may possibly work on Rogers' network in Canada when they roll out 3G, but I'm not sure of that though- so don't hold me to it.

It's 850Mhz WCDMA and also 1900Mhz as far as I can gather... It will work with Telstra's NextG network in Australia, as we also use the 850Mhz band, but I'm not sure about other mobile operators...

I know we also use 2100Mhz over here, so that isn't going to work, but I need to do some more research.

So, North America, from forgotten, to favoured!!! You guys are lucky.

Well, on further investigation, there is good news and bad news for Australians that would like to get their hands on the N95-3.

Most Australian UMTS frequencies are 2100Mhz, which the US N95-3 will not support.

However, Telstra's NextG network that runs on 850Mhz will support the N95-3, but you will be locked down to the one carrier!

At least we have an option.

So does this mean we actually will have a nice phone that no on else has? I'm honestly shocked... First we get the initial release of the iPhone, and now this. Pseudofinn must be in heaven.

Yeah it would seem so, most of the worlds WCDMA runs on 2100Mhz.....

I can already hear Pseudo's screams of joy.....

Rogers has had 3G service (HSDPA w/ video calling) in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) since November 06. Apparently they just rolled it out in a whole bunch of other cities across Canada, I can't remember all the places but I'm sure Whistler, Vancouver, and Montreal were on the list, Edmonton, Calgary and a few other places come to mind also - just google it. So yes the N953 will work with Rogers' 3G network where HSDPA is available....as for pricing though, get ready to take a hit, 0.05 cents a kilobyte.

How can they roll out 3g without a proper data plan? You should be seeing unlimited data plans with 3g in Canada, just like the US.

0.05 cents per k is just silly. What's the point of having 3g without a data plan?

I don't know, its crazy, data on all cell carriers is really expensive. Everyone is really ticked off about it, I only use wifi myself. Expensive data is actually why the iphone has yet to come to Canada, Apple has made some big demands (activate through itunes, 10% of operator revenue, unlimited data), But Rogers is the only GSM network so they can play a "harder ball." Apparently the CRTC (Canadian Radio Telecommunications something?) ... (our FCC) has some pretty nasty restrictions about foriegn ownership. RIM is especially pissed off, because blackberrys are data intensive. I would jump ship from rogers and sign up to a new GSM carrier in a heartbeat if that happened, AT&T Canada, RIM wireless, google wireless, whoever.
