Default The 6210 navigator

Yeah, its me banging on about the upcoming navigator (again).

Most people on here will know Im heavily into GPS on symbian phones.

Anyway, with the announcement of the 6210 navigator, Ive been trying to find out as much as I can about it.

First, heres the specs: Nokia Europe - Nokia 6210 Navigator - Technical specifications

In short, its got:

2.4 screen, QVGA standard 320 x 240.

3.2mp camera with LED flash.

120mb internal memory, with microsd card slot. Likely to be able to take the highest cards out, 12GB at this time. Its expected that a 1/2gb card will be included with the maps on it, size and maps depending on your region.

Maps subscription included - unsure of the exact nature of this yet though. I.e. if map updates are free, like the regular nokia maps are.

Inbuilt compass. This uses the accelerometer. However, its either an enhanced accelerometer, or there is some other dependancy.

950mah battery. Its claimed it will run GPS with backlight on occasionally for 6 hours, and with the backlight on constant for 4.

Volume: 73 cc
Weight: 117g
Dimensions: 103mm x 49mm x 14.9mm

Comes with a car holder.

The main buying points with this, is mainly nokia maps, and the cost. The is relativly low cost for what it is, and when you take into account you dont have to pay for any satnav software as an addition, its even cheaper. Also take into account your getting a car holder, which reduces the cost even further.

As to the old navigator (6110), the 6210 has many advantages over it. Bigger screen, smaller phone, compass, no route66, better battery, car holder included. Better camera too.

Here is a short vid on how the phone looks: YouTube - Nokia 6210 Navigator

Interestingly, its got the 2 pins at the top, charging points for the car holder.

Which means that you can install the holder, and also the charging wire and hide it away. Means you can simply slot your phone in without plugging/unplugging a cable each time. Sounds lazy, but if you do it a lot it does make a difference.

Annoyingly, they have kept the headphone socket 2.5mm. Why not move to the standard 3.5mm? Would have made vastly more sense.

Im in 2 minds about the camera. While the 3.2 is an improvement over the 2 the 6110 had, would it have cost that much extra to add a 5mp? And maybe a xenon flash? Perhaps so, in which case I agree with sticking with the 3.2mm and LED flash. Or perhaps it was a size issue, but the 6220 classic makes me think thats not the case.

I have spoken to the people at viewranger, and they very much think that the ability to add the compass to other apps (like their own) is possible. This would be a huge advantage to walking software, especially the likes of VR as its OS map based.

How effective the compass is remains to be seen, I dont think anyone outside of nokia really knows.

If anyone else has information, or wants information about his phone, or to discuss it, I thought this thread would be a good place to start. Rather than keep annoying people on N95 users

Headphone jack:
If you plug into a car, simply get an adapter. They're very cheap. For personal use, it has A2DP so you can go wireless.

They probably used 2.5mm to save space.

If 6210 had 5MP with xenon, nobody will buy the 6220.

Sadly the adaptors make it huge - I like small headphones, easy to carry. Hanging a large adaptor off makes it prone to weakening it and catches on things. I had the same problem with my 6233, and didnt bother with my navigator.

Might invest in some BT headphones, but earbud ones are expensive, and batteries dont last long.

Your right about the 6220, although Im still wondering if it was to keep the price down. The 6220 costs more than the 6210, and the only things its got over the 6210 is the cam and flash. No wifi either, and it doesnt have an accelerometer or maps subscription.

Ive no idea what sort of costs difference there is in putting in a 5mp cam to a 3.2mp, and also the price difference of a xenon flash.

I wish they put the internals of the 6220 into the 6210, only for the reason that i cant stand candybar phones after using a slider now. (n95)

Ah but thats impossible, as unless you want a very long phone, you have to sacrifice the screen space for a candybar phone. Otherwise the keypad + screen wont fit.

Should have just done a navigator model with the 5mp and xenon flash imo, and not bothered with the 6220 classic. I bet they end up selling very few 6210s, and lots of 6220s.

I was basically only meaning the 5mpx camera, xenon flash.
Wouldnt need to be a longer phone for that.

Yeah yeah, another post about the navi from me, but I figure some people might be watching this thread, so I'll continue to post info and what I think.

Here is a very good set of pictures: All About Symbian Gallery: Nokia 6210 Navigator

Theres a typo, the phone will be FP2 not FP1.

I have to admit Im a bit wary of that d-pad. Looks rather large, would like to see how well it works.

Its much much better looking than the 6110, but annoyingly, it doesnt have a lens cover. Nokia, please listen to what people say! Its really recessed, there was plenty of room for one. I think nokia are trying to make it look better at the expense of things.

One thing where nokia listened to people (or just realised it made sense) was the keypad. There was a huge waste of space on the 6110, and the keys were a lot smaller than they could have been. Easy to use, but I couldnt see why they wasted the space.

Any other opinions welcome.

Oh, and a question. It says it will come in 4 variants, due to connections: http://www.symbian-guru.com/wp-conte..._datasheet.pdf (see under 'systems').

How would I know which is suitable for me (UK)?

You'll want the 3G 850+2100.
