Default Timezone "Sensor" ??????

My mum recently flew insterstate from Vic to QLD, and she told me that her Nokia 6120 automatically adjusted itself for the hour's difference between the two states, and this disorientated her a bit (hilarious).
I know the phones can automatically update for daylight savings, but how does it sense that its crossed a timezone?
Especially knowing for fact that the 6120 doesnt have a GPS chip.
If i had to guess i'd say the firmware has something embedded that leeches off the cell towers to update for the different zones.
Can anyone clarify this for me?

Its the cell towers.
If you go into the clock settings, you'll find an option for network operator time.

lol @Mcbain- yeah, we had the same silly thing with the 'adjustments' of DST here in the States as well. I don't know how long we were off, but everything that's been set to automatically adjust to DST had to be re-adjusted, then again when were actually supposed to change them. Rubbish.

Thanks Doc, I gotta set this. I've been doing a bit of traveling lately, and it's getting to be a pain to reset several phones, tablet, wristwatch- all of those everytime I get to a new timezone.
