Default New N 95-3

Hi all, new to this forum and the Nokia phone. I just got a N 95-3 its unlocked, I use it with my ATnT Sim, My questions are how to tell if it truly unlocked, and also I read that there is a newer firmware for the N 95 not sure what version # . I tried using the Nokia software updater and it reported back that I have the latest update which shows to be ver. 10.2.006
If a phone is unlocked can it still be updated to newer firmware are software .
Thanks in advance

Nobody sells the N95-3 locked, so you shouldn't worry about that.
If you still want to make sure, find a friend who uses T-Mobile and borrow their SIM card.

Locked or unlocked, any Nokia can be updated as long as an update is available.

Don't expect a new firmware until the N-Gage service is formally launched ini December.

Yeah there is the v12.0.014 for all N95's.
It's currently the newest, i think you would have to change your product code to another region's in order to update it.

You have to download the NSS application first.
When you downlaod it check which product code your device carries, you do this by clicking on 'scan for new device' on top right, then you click on 'phone info', then click on 'scan'. Your device's info will appear. After this you check the 'product code' box then click on 'read' below and your product code will appear.
You would probably have to change it to a product code that belongs to a different region, try europe.

Romeo, I don't believe that is true. I have all three N95's in front of me right now...

The N95-1 is v12, however- the N95-3 is 10.2.006, and the 8GB model is 10.0.021.

These are the current firmware revisions. The v10 N95-3 has AGPS, which logically means that the v10 firmware for the N95-1 is not the same as a v10 firmware for the N95-3.

Please be aware that there is not a v12.0.014 for all N95s. This version of the firmware only exists for the N95-1. I don't believe switching the product ID from an N95-3 to an N95-1 is a good idea, though I suspect it won't do much- the Nokia Software Updater will most likely see that the model number (RM-159 vs RM-160 or RM-320) does not match the firmware suggested as current by the product ID.

Cheers

Thumbs up

Oh right, i actually thought all three N95's run with the same firmware e.g the newest firmware v12.0.014 will be for all of them when it is not.
So they all have specific firmwares...interesting. Thanks for letting me know.

Yeah i too believe that the Nokia software update will detect that the product code doesn't match the dvice's firmware.
The only thing i don't undertsand is that i've been told that when you change the product code on the N95-3, the firmware update changes to that specific region therefore will detect another 'newer' firmware in that region.

Perhaps this is a contradiction, however since you own all three N95's i guess this sounds much more logical lol.

Cheers
