I hadnt spotted this till this morning (been rather ill of late).

Must say Im very annoyed, as the Garmin rep I spoke too told me they would try to get a trial version out to me. Also leading me to beleive that its an entirely new version, rather than an update existing users can have.

Havent got it to work yet, had the same garbled thing someone else had. Have uninstalled, but I dont have a USB cable, only a card reader. So no Nokia suite.

Also, the 2nd link has gone. I suspect the sis file is given in the update process from Garmin though, so unless I find it, can someone post it? Trouble is, I have 3 Garmin sis files on my card and 2 have the 24th of sept as created date :S

Download the installer from the Garmin website (Garmin: Garmin Mobile XT Navigation for Smartphones Software Update Collection). I prefer downloading files from original source rather than rapidshare links, the garmin page also has all upgrade/install instructions. You can install it with SD Card reader no problems, I did the same.
Here is what I did using card reader:
1. Renamed the original Garmin folder on SD card to OldGarmin.
2. Used the setup file downloaded from garmin's website to install a fresh copy of Garmin on Card.
3. Copied the basemap/detailed map and other support files voice etc from OldGarmin to Garmin.
4. Insterted teh card back into phone, and executed the garminMobileXT.sis from the root folder of card (yes now it keeps the copy of installer int eh root of the card)
5. Phone asked me to update Garmin from 4.20(20) to 5.00, I said yes, and it was done. No garbled text etc etc.

Hope this helps.

PS: I remember some garbled text. After reinserting the card in phone, Garmin started automatically and the text was garbled. I quitted the application through task manager and ran the installer in the root of SD Card - after that there was no garbled text. maybe the same is happening with you also.

In actual fact I didnt have to do any of that (although thanks for the detailed explanation, its appriciated.

All you need to do is uninstall Garmin from your phone - it still leaves all the files you need - then install via the PC.

After that, if it doesnt autostart when you put the card back in/disconnect from data storage mode, all you need to do is browse to the root of your memory card.

The garmin sis file is there, and will install the latest version.

Cheers Micky. Just a case of man flu I think.

Im liking this new one so far. Very interesting, need to fiddle with the panoramio thing as well.

For me, its pushed Garmin to the top of the pile without any shadow of a doubt.

Sadly, they still havent sorted out the fixed memory card problem, which is an obstacle to most.

after i updated my garmin has become sooooooooooo slow , seriously its unuseable i would say at lest 500m to 700m lag

has no one else noticed this lag at all?? you couldnt miss it on my phone its terrible , the only way i could get it to go away is to change the map from 3d to north up in the map options

iam formatting my memory card and re installing as we speak hopefully this will cure it
