They are making it sound harder than it is. All you have to do is load the new version, use Y-browser or siilar and go into E: look for GarminXT.sis and click on it to install. Reason one is getting the garble screen is because you did not install the new sis file.

No, not the case. You have to uninstall the old version first, *thats* the reason for the garbled version.

I tested it, and it was exactly the same file (took out the sis files, and after installing via the PC again, it put the same ones there again). So while some people might be able to update without uninstalling first, Id highly recommend you do.

Ok so far...

Screen updates do seem a little slow, though nothing unusal.

Panoramio doesnt seem to work, crashes mine.

It now supports new icons. I thought it did previously, but this always caused it to crash. Now, it works well.

See here for a list: Garmin | All Vehicles

Have fun.

Well I just took it for a test drive.

Everything look fine so I though till I go to plan a route. It's just a straight line from point a to point b.

EDIT: All is fine now. Yes the key is to uninstall the previous version like stated.

everything seems to be working, including panoramio photos.

i have found a bug on mine however. if you go to the routing settings, and go to route preference, inside that option i see 2 extra choices. what the bug is if u select shorter distance for example, wen u go back to the routing settings page, it says "select road end point" instead. to choose shorter distance, u have to select priority to hwy-3. then wen u go back, it says shorter distance rather than select road end point. its weird, but doesnt seem like a big problem

BECOMES

BUT

BECOMES

cant get mine to run smoothly at all ive counted 4-5 seconds before my on screen icon actually moves you can imagine if you are doing 60-70mph then the space is quite big , say i drive past a road 5 seconds later garmin says that ive just gone past it , enter a roundabout and exit it and on screen garmin says iam just approaching it. voice guidance is bang on though but the screen defo has a 4-5 second lag

i have tryed , updating v 4.20.00 to v 5 , formatting memory card and reinstalling just v5 on its own , ive tryed it without poi active and without speed cams active , ive tryed 3d map and 2d map , 2d map still has a bad lag but is better then 3d map , ive tryed being zoomed in zoomed out nothing makes a difference iam now running out of options and think maybe me and v5 just werent to be :-(

everything else works perfect , traffic updates , voice guidance , speed cam alerts , but when i go to view map when iam driving or plan a route i get allmighty lag that makes using it very very annoying

anyone got any other idears what it could be?? to many pois loaded on the memory card maybe?? my poi data is 7mb in size , what is everyone elses???

spent the whole day testing this thing now and iam getting a bit annoyed with it and am thinking of just sticking to the previous version

so no one else has experieneced this very slow speed??

Everything is working great here. I like the Google option, it let me find things I couldn't before and much quicker. Searching business with their phone number work great also.
LOL my POI is only 85kb
