Thanks ipears for sharing the info from the other blog. I too had ShoZu installed on my N95 but I don't seem to experience the same problems encountered by those fellas (at least not yet). I'm not sure but it doesn't make sense to me why ShoZu has to run 24/7 in the background. Is there a way to verify those claims (i.e. via a task manager) to see which applications are actually running? Also, if it were indeed true, perhaps there must be a way to turn off some of the features (i.e. auto save, GPS tagging) and then turn them on only when needed? If not, what are the other methods to achieve geo-tagging of photos?

I approached Mark from Shozu for this, hope he will comment himself.

Let's just hope that either this is fixed in the official N95 release of Shozu, or that Nokia puts the geotagging option in their software (lifeblog) or firmware.

Latest update. ShoZu is still installed in my N95 and I was able to view a list of background applications by pressing and holding down the menu key, but ShoZu isn't running in the background.

GPS Services - LOCR and HIPOQIH

Hi, I just came across this great news on the main page of this forum...it seems that LOCR can also be used for geo-tagging of photos. I'll try out both these 2 programs and make a comparison between LOCR and ShoZu.

Doesn't Locr use it's own camera app?

Hi
You're right, use it's own camera app,but it does "casi" exactly what i'm looking for.I've taken some pics from my balcony and send it by wifi to locr and work's great.
No crashes, easy to use, works fine with gps...

I've tested locr earlier today and confirmed the limitation as mentioned by antxxxx (a new member to this forum) in another thread...as the photos are taken through the locr apps and not the nokia built-in camera apps, we can't exploit the full features of the N95 built-in camera functions. This is a huge disappointment for me. Guess I'll still stick with Shozu till someone comes up with a better service/software.

Hi.
Really the photos are poor and this is disappointment for me too,but i can't use Shozu because the geottagging does not work for me: only have degrees (long=6 Lat=38)...

yeah, geotagging isn't ready for prime time yet :)

I've played around with shozu and locr and geotagging and my take is that:

1) locr requires you use their site as a photo-sharing site, which is a huge drawback. Other than that, using locr gets the geotagging info up easily, every time. It will use your last-saved gps data if you tell it to.
2) trying to use geotagging with shozu is much harder. It won't use last-saved position (as far as I can tell) so you must have gps operating - either maps, or sportstracker - to geotag the photo. Half the time with gps and shozu both running, there isnt enough memory for the camera to opearate and it shuts down. I've successfully uploaded photos to flickr, but what I ended up doing was getting one geotagged photo up successfully and then dragging the rest of the photos onto the map spot to batch copy the geotag data....
I love the ease of shozu and that it doesnt have its own interface like locr, and the fact that you can choose your photoshare site. Downside, I've got to shut down and unstall other apps to get it to work properly...

I think one of the negatives for the n95 is that they were too stingy on the built in memory, and that is one limitation that 32gb microSD chips WONT be able to fix...

Still, these are cool apps guys... and the fact that the n95 is one of the very few devices on the planet that lets you do this kind of thing without needing a separate camera, a gps system, and a laptop computer to tie it all together... well that speaks volumes!
