Garmin XT

In looking over an overview of Garmin XT in appears to me that the micro disk that comes with the package must remain in the phone while using the product. Can anyone that has Garmin XT verify that for me.

TIA

As far as I know, you can only install it on the card. When I installed it, it would only recognize the card for install. Do you happen to know where to get maps? I have mine working with the built-in GPS antenna but have no maps.

Tedya-
thanks for the PM on your new N82; it looks like all systems are a go for AT&T as well.
As far as Garmin XT, I looked at the website and one of the disclaimers or qualifiers on the use of XT specified:
\"Just plug this data card into your compatible phone¹ (see specs tab) and start navigating. \"

at the bottom of their specs page:

\"If your phone has built-in GPS, your wireless carrier may block usage of it. Check with your carrier regarding the availability of GPS for add-on mapping software. Click on the specs tab for more information on compatible phones for this product.\"

So, I presume that if your gear is issued by a specific carrier, they probably disabled or overide the ability to access nav maps from a 3rd party supplier, so they can ensure your subscription to their product. Not sure if this is true in this case, but if you have a non-branded [unlocked] device, you might slide by and have full functionality with Garmin XT.
Garmin has always been really good about communication and support; I\'m going to give them a call and ask about my interpretation of their qualifier regarding service w/XT.
I\'ll post what I found out later, unless someone already knows and posts up first.
Pat

Well, I have Garmin XT working fully with the N82. I just need to load some maps but I do not know where to get them from.

Are you using card supplied by Garmin or Nokia 2gb card?

I have both. I copied the files from The Garmin card to my Nokia card. I got the Garmin card with my BT Garmin receiver. I did not like the idea of having to switch out the cards. I have a Garmin City Select disk but am not sure how to sync maps from the disk to my phone.

Hi Tedya,

Go to http://europe.nokia.com/A4509291

...and download Nokia Map Loader. It\'s free and you can select whatever maps you want. Worked great for me!

Good luck

Do you use those maps with Garmin XT or with Nokia maps? I want to use Garmin XT as turn by turn directions are free.
