Tracking via GPS

Crikey....two posts already!

Someone on (dare i say it) another forum mentioned SportsTracker, which is a GPS application to log your running, cycling, etc. and i'm guessing here its a basic logging application which allows you to download the waypoints of every few seconds, etc....Anyone here use it?

Anyone using the phone as a 'live' GPS tracker, using the web? Now that would be pretty trick....

post edit....wouldnt the option of a live GPS track be so useful if an N95 was stolen. It could upload its location to a website, live...could be a painful awakening for the criminal fraternity!!!!

take a look at, Mobile GMaps - Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps and Windows Live Local on your mobile phone! It uses google maps with your gps device.
I think a quick modification of the program would let it to run at the background silently (also automatic launch at the reboot) and update its positions every 30 seconds. The point where you loose the signal is where the thief is hiding in the building!
It would be pretty useful without a doubt.

Sports Tracker works really well. I have tracked my drive through my city and then sent the output (.kml file) to google maps to plot it.

Thanks for that...

Anyone used the tracker remotely then? ie, if someone had it in their possession like you can track work employees remotely with it? See where they are via a webpage or something?

In case your N95 gets stolen or you loose your device: gsm cell-id localization with this free software: Symbian Toys - Symbian Softwares for Series 60 Phones - Guardian - UnlockMe! - FlashSMS
u can also gain informations about the thief, monitoring his activities like sent and received sms, incoming and outgoing calls, phonebooks contacts added.

"Theft" is also a great software solution: SymbainBrains
-gsm cell-id localization- If stolen a siren goes off. If you call your mobile you will be notified of the new number if the thief changes your SIM. It does a lot more- some things are truly stunning ->€14.99

I did some research about gps tracking and collected my findings on my blog:

The newest version of Mobile GMaps adds web tracking features and multiple language support. You can only see your latest position on GMap-Track BETA - Track your position on Google Maps, but more features including "friends" and saving tracks will be added in the following days. MGMaps v1.33 also includes all the features in the previous versions, such as support for local search, directions, hybrid maps, traffic info, view KML, Mobile WikiMapia, FON, Subway maps, Navizon support, etc.

Aspicore GSM Tracker is a good one which I've discussed in another thread here, it does almost everything you want, can even use GSM info for tracking as well as supporting the internal GPS of the N95, it supports free monitoring via GPSGate, and won a runners up prize in Forum Nokia 3rd Edition Challenge.

My only gripes are (and I've sent an email to the developers)
- lack of uninstallation protection
- lack of silent start
- lack of hidden mode
- lack of ability to remotely invoke app via a text message ( <-- the future is here if you ask me)

But all in all, a very solid application worth taking a look at. It was originally designed for online fleet management.

Has anyone use it yet? Can this be used in all countries/regions?
