Maploader Issues
I've downloaded the Nokia MapLoader software, and it installed fine. I had my phone (n95) connected in the mass storage mode as instructed and proceeded to select all the maps and voices that I wanted, and then I clicked on download. There was a flashing prompt that said 'verifying storage medium', which was followed by the download progress bar. After the download completed (installation onto the phone hadn't yet begun), the program again prompted that it was 'verifying storage medium' only this time it was followed by 'connection to storage medium has been interrupted. Please attach storage medium and try again'. I retried numerous times, eliminating each possibility one at a time. The first computer was a laptop running Vista, so i retried on another computer running XP. I thought it might be something wrong with the phone so I connected the microSD card directly to both computers, still the same problem. I then thought maybe the card was corrupted so I tried a different card, and it still came up with exactly the same error.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can do, something I've missed, or has anyone had the same problem? Thanks. |

Replace the storage card in the phone and start the MAPS application, then exit it... THEN try again as you did before... Apparently when you first run the MAPS program, it allots folders on the card to be used by the downloader app, if it doesn't find them, you get an error report, as you've seen.

I've done that, but the phone doesn't seem to want to create the folders. Is it possible for me to create the folders myself? Can you post/send a screenshot with the correct folder tree and any associated files?

That's none too practical a suggestion I'm afraid, there's hundreds of the darned things! How about you format the card (in the phone) and start the process again... I'd also suggest that you might uninstall the Downloader app and reinstall it on the PC. I believe that the pc will retain the files that you've already downloaded... No g'tee tho!

Hi I am having the problem that the phone comes up in non compatible mode when I plug it in using the mass storage option. It then downloads maps and comes up with the connection has been interupted . can anyone give me an up to date step by step option on how to solve this.

This is my problem as well. I have tried doing a hard reset on my phone and using a new SD card, but no luck, as I always get the "disconnected" problem after the map has downloaded. I have contacted Nokia support, but all they can come up with is to take my phone back to the dealer. Given that so many people seem to have this problem, either many phones are faulty or there is something missing in the maploader instructions!
It is driving me nuts! |

I get this problem too on my Vista Laptop, but I run VMware Wkstation 6.0 for work that has a few XP virtual machines. So I loaded up a XP VM, installed the latest Maploader, attached my N95 via USB (VM Workst recognises USB2.0!) and it worked first go. I had attempted it half a dozen times in Vista and got the message about not being able to connect to storage.
It still doesnt work through my Vista, but anytime I need to do anything to the phone I load up my XP VM and it just works! VMware workstation can be used free for 30 days, after which it needs a license. Hope this helps? |
