Is Nokia Map so expensive

I have just finished the three day trial using Nokia Map on my N95.

Now to keep on using the map I have to subscribe at USD 117.71 for three years, besides that Nokia Map need GPRS connection anytime it display the maps.

I heard that this won't happen with GPS gadgets like Tom Tom, Mio, Garmin and the like. Besides that these gadgets are also do have speed camera warning.

Am I right?
Please explain me whenever you have tried both GPS system.

Thanks

You don't need gprs connection while navigating if you store the maps on your memory card.
Maps are free, just use the nokia map loader to upload them on the card.

$117 for a 3 years subscription is cheap IMO. With that said it's not as good as say Garmin or TomTom as in features, and for about the same price you can buy Garmin XT and it will be forever not a 3 year subscription.

Does garmim xt include updates? Also Ive heard that you cannot transfer the maps to your own mem card. If thats true do you have to swap the card when you want to use the app? If thats true I would think thats a pain

I travel from Vejle (Denmark) to Berlin (Germany) and it cost me 120 dollars in roaming connection. I wouldn't advice you to use when traveling abroad, even with the maps on the memory card it conects to the local network...otherwise it won't wok!!!

You can continue to use the maps just not the navigation (turn by turn directions).

And you don't have to take out a 3 year subscription, there are shorter subscriptions.

No, there are ways of transferring the maps to other cards. But, you wont find them documented anywhere!

I agree, travelled all through France, Andorra, Spain and Portugal, didn't cost a penny and worked a treat!
