Talking Use your N95 as a live GPS tracking device :)

Yup ... thats right ...

FREE as well .... for one imie number per free account ....

This software, whilst GPS is locked will record your phones location every 30 secs or so (depending on your preferences) and upload them for your viewing pleasure using GoogleMaps or GoogleEarth.

1: go to 3dtracking
2: download and instal software
3: start 3dtracking software on phone and alow it to upload atleast one position
4: go back to 3dtracking and login using your phones
imie number as username and password ....

view live tracking :)

Have fun .....

tested it a little earlier and the Live update portion seems to work pretty well on google earth and google maps. Also tested the record and send function and it seems pretty cool. Didn't move anywhere other than walking around my house so I'm going to test it on the way to work in the morning. It's a 96 mile trip to work so we'll see how big the file gets recording the whole time

You can set the options in the software to record every 30 secs or longer etc etc ...

Each recorded point must be small .. minute even .. i did a trip using the "store" option and it had saved 23 points .. when i did choose to send data they all went within 2 seconds ... im guessing less than or app 1kb per point saved ..

I must say though that an email i sent to the makers of 3dtracking was answered promptly (day or 2 later) so i might just email again ... and ask them what to expect regarding data usage..

The size of each "location" stored would only need to contain gps coords and imie number.

So I tested it today and set it to record every minute. Was on the road for 75 minutes while recording (yes I drive too **** far to work) and when I was done I hit send data and I swear it took less than 5 seconds. Checked it on the computer and viewed my entire route. Works great . Looked at energy profiler at the time it was running and it's not eating battery life much at all.

Yeah the data is a minute amount of text on each point, add compression to that, and time taken to send will be 80% establishing the connection 20% sending the data!
