    N95 Crystal Case - Rubbish

    How do.

My Crystal Case arrived from eBay yesterday.

    Total rubbish.

The bottom half fits ok, but the top half will not stay on.

I don't know if i've just gotten a dodgy one or not. Not impressed.

Has anyone else had more success?

my experience with crystal cases is that they won't last very long as they crack.

I got one off ebay and its fits rather well. In fact, i actually like having it on my phone. They do crack very easily though, i used one on my N80 and it started to crack probably within the first couple of weeks. All the same, spending a couple of bucks each month on a new crystal case is better than dropping your phone without one on!

I've been using a crystal case for a few days now. I'm well impressed with the fit and function of it. No complaints at all infact. I expect that my N95 will spend little time outside of the protective shell in its lifetime...

Would you be able to tell me where you got yours from please? If eBay, which seller was it?

    I may try another one.

    Thanks

That's what I thought when I first got it my case just wouldn't stay on.. but I played about with it and I found you have to push the little clip bit and also push it down.. I've highlighted it on this pic:

Mine fits great, and the bottom cover is still solid, but the top cover is about to break up into pieces in the next couple of days. Still, i feel $5 every month or two (to buy a new crystal case) to keep the N95 safe and still looking good is not too bad a deal.

    I've got one...

And only one clip for the top plate works and consequently the way it's designed when the top half is moved down it won't push up because the clip itself gets caught on the case of the phone.

For now there aren't any decent options you have to wait for the good companies to produce something with a bit of thought instead of the cheaper ones out there. That said it's always good to have some kind of protection on your phone though.

I ordered the soft Clear Silicon one off eBay today instead of getting the hard one since its prone to cracking and can be slippery when ur hands are wet.

Lets hope it fits well I'll let you know how it goes in a week

I've had 3 Crystal Cases so far. Same brands. All three of them cracked at the exact same place.

mine have been cracking on the face piece, on the bottom, below the dial key on that thin piece. and this is within 1 or 2 days. probably the cheapest material known to man.

Maybe you should try Proporta. Just a pity we don't get it here in South Africa.

The proporta is the same as the bluenplugged, they don't fit well at all. The bottom part really doesn't lock in at all, the top does though.

Having gone through about ten n95 cases, i can confirm they are all junk. It must be to do with the two way slide as I had an n80 with 1 case that lasted me the year i had the phone. I've had my N95 five months now and they all crack in the same place. I found one that the back fits really nice but the front just cracks in time, sometimes after a day.

I've used proporta (which i now see have discontinued them, possibly because of this issue), many sellers on ebay and a local phone shop.

    But all the same.

I have noticed this thread hasn't been updated for an age, how is everyone getting on now.

If it's anything like my silicone case, it's a great fit. It does add a little bulk either side, but I find the protection factor is worth it. I can't baby the thing all the time, and it survives its little bumps well with this case. Some people complain that it looks ugly and the crystal cases look cooler. Maybe they do, but I'd rather my AU$1200 phone was protected properly and looked a bit less pretty than look very cool but be in a case that falls apart constantly. I'm here for functionality rather than looks, baby.

Ugly is a very strong word. It doesn't look that bad, really.

i sorta agree, i mean for me it was like a rollercaoster, hearing people say that its better to baby the thing rather than protect it using 'ugly' cases, lol (used that word is one of my threads). But now i dont really mind anymore, people say that it scratches the housing of the n95 but to me it hasnt really done that. So yeah what you're saying is kinda true, and also i dont really think the crystal case makes it look bad...its the silicone case, it makes it look reaallly bad.

Nooo, that's the opposite of what I was saying! Lots of people say the silicone case makes it look really bad; I don't think it does. I mean, sure other cases make it look better, but if you want protection, the way the silicone case makes the phone look is a small trade off.

'Cos if we were in it for looks, we'd be buying iPhones, right?

yeah lol i understand what you're saying, i meant that i agreed with you about not babying the thing all the time. I mean we can't really baby the n95 all the time can we?...we always have them 'what if' thoughts bout dropping and scratches...ooh thinking bout these things makes me sick...lol. Well yeah i admit the silicone case does protect nicely and doessnt look thhaaattt ugly, but you have to admit that the crystal case does do it's part of protecting aswell as looking good doesnt it?

By that logic though there's a shop down the road that'll fit another genuine front and rear shell on for $40AU, a new case = $10AU, it's just as cheap to replace the casing every 4 months than it is to fit a get a new crystal case...

lol, down the road from where you live right. The thing is i wouldnt really spend that much on a fitted crystal case. why not just buy one brand new, one that fits your n95 perfectly. Thats what i did, i went around looking for one and finally found one that fitted perfectly.

Yeah same here... Top just snapped and the bottom is barely staying on on three hinges, the top left (with screen facing you) is cracking really badly.
Looking for a case that's clear and that isn't cheap plastic, i'm willing to pay big bucks as long as i dont have to worry about the damn thing breaking. Anyone find perfect fitting LCD film protectors?? If so, please link it!

I've had my N95 for 1 month and have already gotten two crystal cases. I got one from eBay it was garbage, then I went to exoticphone.com and thought theirs would be better but no way, I've had that case since Monday and today is Thursday and already the top cover is broken without even dropping the phone.

I use the clear plastic cd sleeves as a covers for my phone, they prevent minor scratches and offer cheap protection, I just tell people they are designer pouches sold on ebay

You have to remember that the N95 is the most challenging mobile phone for desingers to make a case that will be a good fit and still funtion correctly

The first cases to come out were a perfect fit, however they would not slide open to expose the multimedia keypad

The case would fit over the top of the phone and grip in the two top corners

However to enable the case to slide open you had to remove these corners and put the clip in the centre line of the case

Because this part of the case has to be so narrow it also has to be tight. thus causing the cases to split

At the end of the day you also have to realise that the cases are what theey are... a cheep protective case to protect a £400.00 phone

If you have to buy several in a year then it is still a worthwhile investment

To be honest I would recommend a good Silicone Case and Screen Protector

    David

Lol. After like 47 times of choosing which case to use i've finally made my mind up, the silicone case.
I would aslo recommend the silicone case.
It may make appear larger from the sides but it aint much of a size difference, its pretty protective and it looks kinda cool especially from the front.

im at the philippines at the moment and i got a crystal case for like 2 bucks. fit perfectly for my n95, but dust kept going in, which meant that i had to take the top case off and back on. due to me doing that quite frequently the bottom of the top case cracked where it comes on and off from. But other than that im going to buy like 3 to 4 more before i go back to the states. =)

Lol, thats EXACTLY what i used to do when i had the crystal case.
It fitted perfectly however dust kept on going inside and after like a 5 times of taking it off it eventually cracked... .
Even if i never actually took off the top part of the case it still out of nowhere started to crack. Thats why i changed my mind to the silicone case lol.
Take my word for it, you may find it ugly it first but after that it will look kinda cool and it does a great job protecting aswell!.

Instead of protecting...the destroy!, lol. Well, not that harshly.

I've had a few crystal cases that actually disrupted the sliding mehcanism both ways. I mean if they're gonna make cases that protect, they should first make cases that fit.
But i've realised that some companies make them with two clips on the top and bottom which are the disrupting ones.
However the ones that dont disrupt the sliding mechanism are the ones with the single long clip along the middle on the top and bottom, which were the ones i tend to buy when one would eventually crack!.
I just use a silcone case now, white one.

Like everyone else, i have been searching for an ideal case for N95. I have finally found one. Though not fancy like some other cases, a Lowepro Rezo 10 is the best IMO. It fits perfectly and protects the entire phone from dusts and water when you carry, yet you can enjoy a naked phone when in use. (I like to feel the naked phone when i use.) With a DuraSec screen protection, you feel totally in peace. It costs only around 15 USD. I simply cannot take a risk to try with some prototpye cases which may or may not fit or too tight to fit, for my 700 USD phone !

Please dont waste your money on cheap plastic crap. Your contributing towards the polluting the environment as well. Go for a leather or silicone cover

Well I complained to the ebay seller and sent photos so they sent a new one.

It lasted less than a day!

I can't understand why a better quality Crystal case hasn't been produced. They'd sell like mega hotcakes.

Meanwhile the only thing that does the whole job without getting in the way too much is the "******* Child" (And my woman says it still looks like a Dick!).

But the fact that you would have to clean off any dirt underneath the screen part of the crystal case is quite agonising!
So that's why i refuse to buy them Now, unless they make ones with the screen exposed, which is like highly unlikely! lol.

The Capdase case has a seal round the case-screen to phone-screen join, and so far I haven't had any dust/muck between the two. (Only been a week though).
