The N95 Tripod Mod. What a beauty!
Well, guys, I think you are really going to like this one. The N95 tripod made easy! And it works a TREAT. What's that? Let's get started? Well OK here we go!!!!!!
All you need is a small-ish tripod designed for your pocket digi-cam, and a 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable. At least that's what I used. It could be 3.5mm to anything. You just need a 3.5mm jack. My original idea had been to get an actual Phono -> 3.5mm jack, but a cable is going to be much better, especially if you can get one like I have pictured here, as the inside of it is mostly plastic, and you will be able to drill into it much easier. So, grab one end of the cable, and slice the cable off with a pair of scissors. Slice that little bendy bit off too, so you're left with the jack only. Like this: ![]() Now, get yourself something like a pair of grippers or even a vice, and whip out the ol' power drill as we need to drill a hole in this sucker! Have a look at the screw bit on the end of your tripod, and make the hole in the end of the jack slightly smaller in width. You should end up with something like this: ![]() We're on the home straight already. Aren't you excited?? Next take the jack and applying the necessary amount of pressure, screw the jack onto the end of your tripod. As you can see, the inside of the jack will become threaded by the screw on your tripod, and when you're finshed, you will have a perfect, snug, stable fit. Ooooh yeeees! ![]() And that's it! You now have your custom N95 tripod! And because this procedure was non-desctructive, you can screw the jack right off your tripod, and use it with your other camera.... Just remember that if you do, you're a traitor to us all. You should have thrown that other camera away by now, or given it to your girlfriend. I'm exempt, as I had to take pictures with something else, right??? I mean it's my girlfriends camera, yeah. ;-) So, here is the finished product, enjoy, my friends! ![]() And remember, you saw it here first on www.N95users.com ! Salada2k

You know, salada, I had been thinking that the audio jack might be sturdy enough to double as a tripod mount! I'm off to the store like pseudo to get me a jack!
Tell you what Salada, I'm broke too, but I do have this bridge for sale... |

Hey! That's neat, salada2k...
It'd be ideal for taking panoramic shots and stitching them together too, You can be sure that the camera remains level and pans smoothly... take pics with a 2 second delay set and you should get some rock-steady shots! Just tried holding it on a 3.5mm jack plug and even just by holding the plug in my hand I got some real smooth video panning shots with no jerking by slowly moving the camera around the pivot point, quite impressive stuff! Even better now there's no red light of course! hehe! Last edited by Sp00k; 06-27-2007 at 11:42 PM. |
