Using N95 from wall outlet, without battery.Any way to do it?

I'm planning to use my phone as a modem, but since it drains the battery more fast than normal (due to USB cable connection), it wouldn't be good for the battery.

I'd like to know if there's some way (a trick or enhancement) that would allow me to use my phone plugged into a wall outlet, so the battery wouldn't be drained.

Initially, i thought about the possibility of using some diode or led, and connect it to battery connectors, in order to trick phone into thinking battery is there whenever charger is plugged. This way, i could use phone as a modem without worrying about the battery usage.

I didn't do that yet cause i'm not sure if it's secure, since i could damage the phone. That's why i'd like to know if it's possible at all.

Does someone know a solution for my specific case?

P.S.: I don't plan to get spare batteries.

And an USB modem wouldn't solve my problem neither: all the ones sold here are locked.
Actually i have a Huawei E220 USB modem, but it's locked to a particular network, and i can't unlock it cause i must pay a certain amount of money in some international currency (dollar or euro, can't remember) to get a credit for Kulankendi unlocking software.I also thought of asking for donations via PayPal (since Kulankendi accepts payment through that system), but that would be my last bet.

Thanks for any help

There's no way to do it - The charger port is almost directly connected to the battery and is intended for much higher currents than the phone would allow. The phone will only take power from the battery itself, at a much lower rating, so you will need the battery inserted.

Simply plug in the charger while you're using it as a modem and you will be fine! The battery charges quicker than it discharges and will easliy be kept 'topped up', even with heavy use

Actually because the battery in the N95 is Lithium based it will be good for it. lithium batteries prefer to be kept topped up, not discharged like NiCd batteries.

I know that.

The reason why i'm not doing that already is such technique causes the battery's temperature to be higher than normal during use, specially in heavy data transfer (i.e. when uploading large videos to YouTube service) and i think that would be no good for the battery.

If I remember well, there's a special cable for S40 phones used by service center staff that allows user to turn phone on without battery, since the cable fills the whole place intented for the battery.

I don't know if there's such thing for the N95.

If at least i could unlock the Huawei E220 USB modem, my problems were gone

But the only two softwares that could do that are unusable for me.
"DC unlocker" asks for a dongle; and i can't get credits for "Kulankendi"...

Best regards

alb3530 I wouldn't worry too much about the phone heating up as you're looking at an average 3 year life span for the battery. Plus batteries aren't that expensive so I say just leave the battery in it's not going to hurt it.

leave the battery in, use the most out of it and get another one later when it's no good...instead of doing something that might harm your phone and end up paying more later.

I use my N95 as a modem for hours on end and the only times the battery gets hot is when it is low on charge. If you put it on charge before you connect to the internet then heat is not an issue.

The worst combination for causing a hot battery is to allow it to run down, then put it on charge while using the internet.

Since you are using USB you can get the combined USB and charge cable, save one lead.

One of the problems is it's not that easy to get a N95 battery where i live.

Actually, i could get an AC charger with the output of 4 volts. That wouldn't harm the phone.Only problem would be to connect it to the phone.

The ordinary charger, as long as you keep the battery topped up.
