8GB micro SD card problem

I actually have an N82, but they are almost exactly the same as N95s so was hoping somone here might ne able to help.

I got a Sandisk 8GB micro SD card for it with card reader from mobymemory on t'internet. Initially the card could be read both in the card reader to my pc and by my phone - working fine.

Now, (after installing Ybrowser, Ytasks, google maps, calcium calc, speech-to-go, safe txt, google mail, shake lock, flip silent, scanR, mrLock, and Screensnap, along with about 4GB of music [note - all these were installed on my handset rather than the card, with exception of music files]) my phone will still read it fine, however, when I try and use the card reader my pc won't recognise the card at all. Just comes up with an empty drive in My Computer. When I click on it it just says please insert disk.

I have tried my 2GB card in the same reader and in my phone and that works ok with both (including Ybrowser etc).

Also, when i connect the phone (with 8gb card inside) to computer via USB and choose 'data transfer' on connection options, my computer will read the card fine and allow me to transfer files!

This is a pain if I am round a friend's house and want to share any files with them. I shoudl just be able to take out my card and do an easy copy via card reader key ring, not really wanting to carry around my USB cable all the time on the off chance i might need it.

Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it?

I have tried formatting the card via USB cable to my phone and this doesn't help. When connected via cable, the card says it is formated to FAT32 so why won't the card reader work? (tried it in 3 difference PCs and Laptops all with windows xp).

Thort maybe Ybrowser may have reformatted it somehow, but 2GB card is fine and has been used with Ybrowser.

Any suggestions cos i'm stumped?

Some USB ports have problems reading card above 2gb, or 4gb. They will read if stored information is below that amount, but when there is more than this amount on the card, this is where your problems start.

First make sure that your usb supports SDHC.

What OS has your home Computer/Laptop?

There are known issues with Vista.

Download details: Update for Windows Vista (KB940199)

If that does not work, then delete the INFCACHE.1 file in the C:\Windows\inf folder (you have to show hidden files and folders from the Tools > Options menu and then click ont he View tab) and reboot. Then plug the reader back in.

Did the card-reader that you're using come with the 8GB card, or is it a standard one? It needs to be SDHC compatible.

Hey guys sorry for delay in getting back to you, bin away.

Cheers for your responses.

My card reader came packaged with the micro SD card and is also made by SanDisc and is SDHC. No issues there.
Im using a brand new Dell XPS laptop so assume it has the most upto date USB slots.
It does run Vista Home Prem O/S, but I have also tried it on a few other PCs that are running XP and none of them like it either.

I tried downloading the MS update you recommended but my computer said it wasn't relevant for my system and wouldn't install the download. I'm pretty good at installing all the most recent (non Beta) updates for my system.

I tried deleting the INFCASHE.1 file from the windows directory but my laptop wouldn't let me which I thought was a bit strange. It says "You need permission to perform this action". I am logged on as the only user and should have access to do what the hell I like to my own laptop surely.

I also tried deleting all of the content from the SD card by connecting my phone in Data Transfer mode. This still didn't help.

I tried formatting the empty card in the Data Transfer mode through my phone, as it just appears on the computer as if it is connected as a USB storage device. I formatted in FAT32 and this didn't help either.

It just seems strange that it used to work before I put any files on it, but now it won't regardless of how much information it is holding.

I use xplorer2 lite as my file browser (as well as normal windows file browsers) and in this it tries to read the card for ages and then just gives up, showing the card (or maybe just the card reader) in the file tree on the left.

I have also tried using it in the microSD to SD adapter in my laptop's card slot - same issue.

Yeah, I did mention that in my previous post (3rd para). It is a USB SDHC reader. Also made by SanDisc and came packaged with the card.

Tried putting it in the reader, then the laptop. Tried putting the reader in the laptop 1st then the card in the reader. Neither way works.

I also have an microSD to SD card adapter that also came in the same package with the card made by SANDISC (assume its SDHC - but cant see it written on it anywhere, doesn't work anyway).

Welcome to the forums bhavik0!

What brand is your MicroSD? If its the Sandisk, with the small adapter, checkout the Sandisk forums as there has been a few people with problems getting their computers to read the card in its adapter. You need to make sure you have the correct usb driver installed on your pc/laptop.
