Nokia N97 doesn't turn on!

I turned my phone off yesterday and connected it to the charger, today when I woke up I saw the screen was still on (even though it should turn off while charging), now the phone won't boot!
I only see the Nokia logo and nothing else, no dimming of light, no QWERTY keyboard lighting up, nothing!
This has happened to me before when the memory card was inserted but since then I have removed it
I can't make the phone connect via USB so I can't format my E: drive. Is it best to get a replacement in my case?
Edit: plugged the device using my USB cable again, I got installing device driver (Nokia USB ROM), when the screen turned on I got device unplugged.

I'm having the same problem you had and still didnt work. the difference is that i dont even see the nokia logo, nothing at all.
what exactly does the Shift+Space+Backspace + power button? and does it word if the mobile is not turned on?

My phone sometimes turns off and I don't see the logo till I press the power button 3-5 times.
Try doing that first, if it doesn't work you'll have to take it to a Care centre
The key combo just hard resets the phone (to solve problems with installed software, missing files, etc...)
Try using J.A.F. if you can't go to a care centre.

That happened to me after it installed V12 and all I had to do was take the battery out (had a BB used to battery pulls hahah)
God I hope V20 is all its cracked up to be. Will be doing a hard reset tomorrow to solve other problems.

Took me about 6 tries but finally got it, make sure your phone is off and then press the 3 buttons while pressing the power button, keep holding until it powers on do not let go until you get the enter your region screen. The keyboard is small as you know and making sure you are only holding the 3 buttons in it takes practice to make sure you are only pressing the buttons you need. Keep trying you will get it.

Doing a hard reset on my unit made a WORLD of difference, now I have over 59k of available RAM. Phone workds as it should.

Hi everyone
I finally got it working again!
But you`ll never guess how!
I tried everything, but nothing worked...
Then I opened and closed the cameralid and now it goes on again.

But still it doesn't work properly:
If I want to go to a website with the browser:
It closes without any error
And no application that needs Intenet connection works.
(That's why I actually turned off the Phone in the first place, before it didn't turn on afterwards. I wanted to restart it because maybe the problem would get solved with a restart)

Again I tried many things to fix.
Messed with the connection-settings
tried different simcards....

Maybe now the HARD RESET will work on my Phone...
maybe I will have to try that, even though I really don't want to...

Heey! i got the same problem here!
My nokia only gives the nokia logo and nothing else..

I tried the 4 finger buttons and at the first time i thought it worked! The phone turned of slowly and there where strange columns of pixels of red. so it resetted i think.

When i turn it on now there is a black screen for 2-3seconds. (longer then normal) and then it gives the nokia logo again and wont go further. and now when i try the 4 bfingerbuttons it doesnt react tot it.

Anybody know?

edit: it worked again didnt know you do it when it is turned of!: now it is resetted!

Take the battery out for 10-15 minutes and try again. If it still doesn't work - Nokia service centre.

i had that problem where the phone would freeze on start up and just show the nokia logo. i did the shift+delete+space and power button thing and it fixed the problem. i held the 3 buttons first then powered on the phone....i continued holding all the buttons for about 30 seconds. at first it seemed like it didnt work because nothing happened. then right when i was about to take the battery out, the nokia tune and the hands showed up! i was relieved because i thought my phone was a goner. thanks you guys for the 411! that diagram mohammadAG posted helped out a lot.

and i found that the C:/ is like format after i press this...
but is nice.. couse my all file document all store at E:/
so i advise all N97 users move all your improtant data to E:/ drive for incase....

umm i have a problem too, my phone jus turned off for no apparent reason. now it won turn n, i rememberd i had like two bars left so i tought, ill put it on charge concidering it was quiet low, ive dont tha, nothing.. ive tried turning it on like 100 times, still nothing, took the battry out or 3 mins, nothing, my memorie card wasn in ther because it in my computer.. please help me its before christmas and i need my phone. someone please help me!

Have/had the same problem with n97 mini, was due to take it into nokia car but tried the shift+delete+****+ power and seems to have done the trick! thanks to every1!!!

You might have filled rootfs, not sure.
You can flash it to fix it

1. Turn off Maemo device
2. Press and hold down key 'u'
3. Connect USB cable between Maemo device and host PC while holding down key 'u'
4. When USB cable gets connected it powers Maemo device and sets it to flashing mode
5. When USB icon appears on right upper corner Maemo device is in flashing mode
6. You can release key 'u'

I was updating my phone and my computer crashed. The update was interupted and now the nokia n97 wont turn on. When i hold the power button down is vibrates but nothing happens. I cant take it to a care center, but you said using J.A.F might make it work? What is J.A.F?

This combination didn't work with my N97.

It doesn't react when I simply try to switch it on. When I plug charger it charges for a while then the Nokia logo appears for 1-2 minutes. At the time I understand the phone is not being charged as the light is off next to the plug hole.
After 1-2 minutes pass the logo disappears as the battery is low. This keeps repeating again and again - charge-nokia-logo-off...

I pressed the buttons (shift+delete+space+power on) for several minutes both when I see nokia logo and when the phone is switched off. There was no reset. Went to CPW care point at Oxford circus and they said that they will need to take the phone for 48 hours to check the problem and if anything serious - send it to the factory up to 3 weeks.

Can you help please with your advices...

This happened to me and i thought i had to get a replacement but i think the problem i had was that i kept charging it to muck and bust the battery so all i had to do was charge wait ten mins then it started working again hope this is the same prob you had hope i could help DAVESPAZ

I recently am experiencing the same problem, since yesterday at 5pm, i wasn't able to turn on my phone.

I tried everything you guys said before, but nothing worked, even the one about the camera lid and all. My phone is the N97, the regular version, only got it for about 5 months.

also if this information helps, My phone, for some reason, isn't charging, and i dont think its the charger's fault, cause I went and read the manual book, and it says that as long as the light indicator lights up, then its charging, but when i plug it in, it still doesn't charge. Its usually a dark screen, meaning its not lighting up, and its not turn on, but once in a while it turns on and i can see the nokia logo, but thats about it.

and when i do see the white screen and the nokia logo, on the upper top corner, it shows the charging bar thing, but its not charging, it stays at 1 bar, and no change to it, what should i do,

What should I do, i read and read, and does not want to lose any information, is there anyway to get around it, if there REALLY isn't then I still want to fix it and all, so as long it can be fix, then its all good, What should I do, Please Help!!!

Hi, I am here just to tell a similar story. Yesterday, I have installed some games from ovi store and have updated the ovi store browser before that. Then I went to the market do buy some things and when I took the phone from my pocket there was the nokia screen. I tried to boot it many times, took off the battery and nothing. Put it to charge and tried everything again and nothing. Today I did the Shift+Space+Backspace+Power reset and it boot again!

Hey,
Like everyone else my phone decided not to play. I went to read a mge n the screen went black. I took the battery out and replaced it but nothing changed. It initially gave the nokia symbol and vibrated when switched on but now it has completely stopped doing anything. If I put it on to charge then the light does not appear however after several days I have just plugged it into my laptop and the light is coming on but it is not connecting to the laptop....my main problem is I have photos on the phone which I really dont want to lose, I norm back everythin up every week however I had literally just taken them...does anyone know of any way that I can save the images?? I no longer care about fixing the phone

I tried many many times of all the advice and suggestions that i read. I pressed the 4 buttons many many times without and with my wall charger/usb charger connected, nothing worked but when i decided to give up, i just took out my battery with the wall charger still connected to it and then the screen came on! I hurriedly placed the battery back into the slot and watched as the charging screen lighted up, after a few minutes i decided to turn on the phone and everything worked perfectly, seems like i didn't lose my data inside my phone.
