Phone doesnt ring or show when it receives a message

Starting yesterday my phone would receive messages but it wouldnt ring or show on the main screen saying that i have a new message or the little icon with the envelope sign i would have to go into messages menu and i would see that i have unread message. i have 2350 written messages on my phone. has to this ever happened to anybody and how did you fix it thank you

I doubt that Nokia sofware designers expected anyone to keep a copy of War & Peace, stored in individual 160-character messages on their phone!

How do you fix it? Maybe deleting 2300 of them might be a preliminary step worth considering?

I thought the max it would store is 999 messages.

Certainly that's the max setting before it'll auto delete old messages

I agree... you might want to get rid of a few messages.

But since he does have over 2300 messages on the thing, it seems apparent to me that they don't auto delete as the 1000th message is stored.

It may cause some performance issues though, and could be related to this issue... certainly you're not intended to use the device this way. What is the purpose of 2300 messages? Do need them?

edit- Wise sp00k just pointed out that the N95's settings don't allow for over 999 messages to be stored. So... you still have 2,350 SMS's on your N95?

My N80 Used to stop showing the "1 New Message" alert after I reached a certain number of messages. Delete a few and I'm sure it'll show up again.

I had about 2260 message in my inbox when this same error started with me.
Im just moving them all into a different oflder now to see if it helps.
im guessing the max messages of 999 is if they're saved on phone memory? i set mine to save onto memory card because receiving files through bluetooth sometimes didnt work when phone memory ran out.
