Just a follow up, Nokia finally received my phone today. If they still haven't shipped it out 10 days later, I'm going to start hassling them about it.

Thanks for the info. The more info people provide, the better I can narrow down the problem. I've done quite a bit of research and I've only noticed these 2 things to repeat in a pattern but I don't have enough results to really declare anything.
I successfully update v11 to v12 using windows vista business.. so I guess vista is not the problem, unless you didnt give nsu the required privillege for it to run properly on vista (such as firewall exception, administrator privillege, etc)

Mine too

was going from 11 to 12, using XP

On a fast broadband connection, connected directly to USB. Charger plugged in (full battery beforehand too). firewall and antivirus disabled.

Update (113Mb) downloaded fine.... upgrade went fine, even got to the end where I got a "you may now use the phone again" screen... although the screen at that point was blank, and just the front keys lit up.

Left it a few minutes before I disconnected everything after this screen. Tried turning it off and back on, same thing.

The only thing I noticed that during the upgrade, my computer task bar reported something new in USB (new device or suchlike perhaps??) Not sure what it was, coz didn't pay much attention to it... and surely if that had been to blame then it wouldn't have finished the upgrade and given me a completed message?

Phone is now in at Carphone Warehouse, I don't mind paying for the repair if needs be (as long as they give me v12 as all I wanted was the AGPS - sick of standing outside like a pillock for 20mins each time I want to use Maps!)

If you phone still read on the computer, you could've done the flash again. I was probably detected as a BB5 loader or something like that. Mine was just plain bricked. Computer wouldn't detect it as anything.

Mine wasn't detected as anything either, nothing in NSU... nothing in PC Suite

Wow, I checked my repair status a few days ago and they have already shipped the repaired phone. It should be at my door step soon.

Wish we could trace repair status for UK, can't find it... mind you the whole Nokia UK site was down when I last looked.
