Quad-band, only two bands working?
Hello all,
I have a really strange problem with my N95 original. I bought the phone from Datavision in the USA back in July while I was in the States. Everything was working great (and still does), however... Last week I went for trip to India (which is where I am now) and noticed that my phone shows no network coverage whatsoever. Wherever I go, still no coverage. My companion has another quad-band phone with roaming enabled, just like I do, and we are with the same provider in the USA--her phone seems to be working just fine. Also, an interesting detail is that my time has been correctly updated by the network, but I stilll see no network coverage, no matter what I do. Any suggestions? I hope this is not a hardware failure. Thanks all over the place. |

India run on GSM 900/1800 and UMTS 2100, therefore the N95 should work fine. It is strange. Have you checked your settings under Tools > Settings > Phone > Network > Operator Selection and made sure it's on 'Automatic' and not manually set to your home provider? Switch to Automatic and then back to Manual and allow the N95 to scan for local providers in India, and choose one.
You could also check the setting in there for 'Network Mode' and toggle between UMTS and GSM to see it that helps. Let me know how you go

India still has not deployed 3G, so it will be GSM only. Have you tried using your SIM in your companions phone and vice-versa? That should point out if the problem is with the phone hardware or somewhere else.

Are you sure international roaming is enabled on your account, check with your service provider.

May I suggest checking your network mode settings? If cross-network UMTS is not fully supported in your area this may be the reason..
Go here to see if you can achieve a signal: Menu -> Tools -> Settings -> Phone -> Network -> Network Mode -> GSM |

Psarna also pointed out India has not actually rolled out 3G *yet*, therefore you would have to switch to GSM only mode. Which mode is it on?

I just never thought that network signal can depend on a SIM card. :) |
