    Argh! Charger Socket Kaput!

One thing I hate about all new Nokia phones - the flimsy poxy tiny new ac adaptor. I've got two adapter and both the pins are bent. Some have bent whilst plugged into the phone and as a result the plastic surrounding the socket cracked and the pin inside the socket bent. Well its totally buggered now. The pin inside the socket is nowhere to be seen. I cannot charge my N95 now So its off to the repair centre in town.

I'm guessing I'll have to pay for the repair seeing as I changed the back cover plus de branded the phone? Or are Nokia not too bothered about cosmetic changes and product id changes?

changing your product code will void the warranty. you can get a usb charger (dke-5) if you want.

Aye, but do they know the product code has been changed, if you restore the product code to the one under the battery on the label is the burning question?

Good question logan. I don't think so, i often wonder myself. I changed mine's back anyway! I heard from others that they didn't notice.
Newbies, please don't PM me unless you have a Nokia query

they won't know if you restore it back. that's why i suggested to get the usb charger just so you can restore your phone.

Just take the time to change it back and than send it in... It's what people do with their modded cars going in for warranty work...

You have my sympathy Logan. A few weeks ago I broke my volume up switch. I toddled off to the Vodafone shop who said it would be two to three weeks before I got my prize possession back. The actually advised me to take it to a Car Phone Warehouse that was a Nokia Service Centre. They stuck my phones IMEI into their computer that promptly told them my N95 was still under warranty. Two days later it was repaired free, gratis and for nothing. I didn't even bother changing my product code back to the original Vodafone one.
This forum taught me all I know - use search and let it teach you too !

I think you'll be fine. Changing the back cover is cosmetic only, and I'm sure the techs couldn't give a rats about how the phone looks.

Debranding could be an issue, but since it's a hardware repair on your phone rather than a software fault they'll concentrate of replacing the socket rather than messing with the software on the phone. If the os was rooted, however, it would be a different story. Remember that they're busy people, and will probably only turn on your phone to check how it is charging.

Hang on, are you saying there is a USB cable that charges the phone through the USB port on the bottom of the phone? Or are you misunderstanding my fault? Its not the charger that is busted, but the actual socket on the bottom of the phone.

Well The Phone Doctor (a chap on the market in Milton Keynes) can repair it but it'll cost me £20 and I won't get it back till Tuesday.

I'm waiting for the Northampton Nokia Service Center to e-mail me back.

I've called one of the Milton Keynes NSC's and I'm waiting for a phone call from them.

The other is the Carphone Warehouse in Milton Keynes which has an express Nokia repairs service. Tried calling but nobody answered. Might have to pop down there later and see what the deal is.

I want to be without my phone for as little as possible!

Tuesday from today isn't bad. It took the Carphone Warehouse (a NSS) exactly that time for my repair.

Nobody ever answers the phone at CPW in my experience, not ever.

In the meantime I bought myself a Nokia 2630! Nice little phone for £40. Think I'll use it on nights out as its so ed pocket sized cute I could just eat it lol

£20 mate. Not bad when Nokia wanted £45. Though I guess my warranty is void now as I doubt the Phone Doc is registered to take out work by Nokia. Nevermind. I'll just send it back to 02 next time round and complain like there is no tomorrow lol

Will do! I was a bit dubious about handing my precious over to the Doc, but the other half's brother has used him before for the same problem and got his phone back no problems. I'll be making sure the IMEI's match up though!

Well got my N95 back today. Was initially worried when I approached the Phone Doctor. He said "you've got more issues with that phone, changed the part but it won't charge". I was about to go off on one about how it was charging prior to the fault, but he tried a different charger and it worked. Turned out his charger he was using to try it was duff.

All seems well anyway. Glad I've got her back, missed her lol

why on why oh why have Nokia changed the charging socket for this STUPID small pin, mines not working now (well if I fiddle with it for like 20 mins I get a connection and it works)

The older bigger charging socket was far better.

You could get an external charger mate where you take the battery out and place it in the desktop charger :-)
