Lets steer it into a more productive direction then....

What is the next gen of phones? I dont understand what there is left for them to do.

Ive been reading a few reviews on feature pack 2, and Im not that impressed. I want to have a play myself, but if its not that good I might even fall back to getting an N82. Its got the best specs out of all the new phones.

Once the N82 comes in black in the next few weeks I'll be getting one, I don't anticipate upgrading handsets again until 2009 (unless the Samsung G810 fulfills its promise, in which case that'll be the next phone later in the year).

Regarding where to go next?

Bigger, better resolution, screens
HD-Video recording and output
Optic Zoom, Xenon flash, better sensors in increasing numbers of handsets - virtually full digital camera replacements in mobile phones for all but professionals/enthusiasts
Laser projectors
Better battery technology
Better graphics acceleration (like the NVidia thing shown recently, nice)

Really overall you'd have to say that in general the 'where to go next' is to make phones like the N95 full replacements for each of their respective functions, rather than accepting any degree of compromise for convergence.

The N82 is great little handset mate, you can't go wrong to be honest.

Xenon flash is already being done?

I cant see the other stuff making an appearance for a while yet. Battery technology has to get a lot better before any of it is really feasible.

You could be right about the attempt at making phones the equal of some devices.

For many the 5mp camera and xenon flash on the N82 is enough for most people, even when on holiday etc. The only thing missing is optical zoom, and then they really will replace your average family cam.

And not long after that, the family camcorder as well.

I still think one of the main restrictions is batterylife. Once thats cracked, Im sure we will see a lot more interesting things pop up.

I have to say that bigger screens isnt really going to happen for me. They are as big as they can get on the current form factor, and any bigger and I dont really consider it to be a mobile phone. So in that sense Im not bothered by a higher resolution. A higher res output, definatly though (TV out, etc).

Yeah, only thing is I really dont like the look. It all depends on if I really need wifi, otherwise its going to be the 6220 classic.

Personally, I reckon theres a market for a N82 replacement -

Same spec but looking better,

Keypad like 6220 classic (i.e. normal nokia style),

FP2,

Possibly something extra squeezed in? Must be possible. Either bigger battery or some onboard memory, 16GB say while retaining the card slot.
