I dunno about California, but in NYC they will cut the lock and steal the front tire or the entire bike.
I would be careful about investing too much if you are buying new, and if you already have a bike, research a good lock that cannot be cut with bolt cutters.

Sad I know.

well that depends on where in LA you are. San diego isn't that bad and most of LA isn't either but no matter where you go there's people stealing something. If you are getting a lock that attaches to the fram you should be fine especially out there where there's more expensive things everywhere to steal

I totally agreed. There always bad apples around, even for a quiet city in Canada.

I just got one of these... for my new bile.

The idea is that you lock the frame and rear wheel to the solid object with the U-lock and then run the cable through the front gubbins fork/wheel and back to the lock.

Cost £25 and is guaranteed for £500. The next model up is guaranteed for £800 I think and it's about £34 ish.

The U-Lock is quite narrow and short, so measure up first. It's small size is designed to avoid generic car jacks being used to jack open the lock. Apparently.

I guess it depends where you are. If someone wants your bike, they'll get it one way or another. Perhaps consciously lock it under CCTV areas, etc.

It's Broke?

Did you know that your Nokia comes with a 2 year warranty? Did you know that Carphone Warehouse are Nokia Repair Centres?
Damage from normal use: wobbly slider, broken keys, quiet earpiece etc... will be repaired for free, and usually the same day if you take it to a big store!

You guys make it sounds like America is a dangerous place.

You should get a lock and maybe a gun.

LA and Sd are really huge places. There's tons of urban sprawl. You wont be able to reliably get around without a car.

In both cities, you can put your bike on the front of a bus.
The bus systems are both kind of poor.
