Can the N810 replace a laptop.?

Report from Norman on SW.

Can the N810 replace a Laptop? Symbian World

The Nokia N810 Internet Tablet is a really powerful device. It is the successor of the N800, a great device too. The Internet Tablet offers a lot features like GPS and a full QWERTY keyboard. Its mainly about the internet experience which is really amazing. However, my question is: Can the N810 replace a laptop? This is a question I want to answer.

To answer this question I’ve made a short list with things I’m doing on a daily basis on my laptop:

* Send and receive E-mails
* Read RSS feeds
* Surf in the internet
* Listen to music
* Watch videos on YouTube
* Chat via MSN
* Write articles for my blogs

E-Mail:

Indeed, E-mailing on the N810 isn’t a problem. After setting up a account by using the proper ports, accounts and information you can start using the pre-installed E-mail client. The E-mails are displayed almost just like on the laptop. More over, you can set an interval (for example each 10 minutes) in which the E-mails getting checked. Using the QWERTY keyboard or an external keyboard like the SU-8W you can write pretty fast.

More in link above.

What you reckon PseudoFinn? how you getting on with yours.?

i had an umpc once with the sony ux series and i didn't like it. it was doing all of the above but it wasn't comfortable at all. i still went for the laptop even if i got sz series with the small screen the keyboard made the difference. even if i want to get one of these i just know i'll still prefer the laptop so i just try to avoid knowing more about it. i do think it's a nice gadget to have but it'll depends on how you would really need it. i'm fine with my phone that does about everything that i need and some. :)

I can't say its a replacement but it does work out nice for quickly doing things without having to power your notebook up and make sure it has enough battery power.

I guess it depends what you use your laptop for doesn't it. I mean for an experienced/advanced user then no it probably couldn't. But for the average user then you probably could get away with it.

Can the N810 replace a laptop?

Not a hope AFAIC, not while-ever it uses Linux! UGH!

I don't intend to have to learn the vagaries of a different OS... I haven't even fully grasped Windows yet!

I have an N800, which is essentially the same as a N810 (without the GPS, but with an extra SD card slot) which I use quite a lot.

But there is no way at all that it could ever replace a lap top for me.
