Ive commented on that page, as that particular method does not work in all cases unfortunately, possibly down to certain versions of Vista..

Nope, not in all cases Sammy boy.! Particularly with the N95 8GB model, and certain versions of Vista.

What version of Vista did your friend have? It would be helpful to know.

I tryed that last night, worked until it started updating and was stuck at 15 minutes, i had to just shut down my laptop and take the battery out then restart, luckily my N95 8GB was fine but there is no way I'm trying it again and i wouldn't reccomend it to anyone ;)

Well it does say at the link i posted....

''Nokia doesn’t support Vista on the Software Updater, so we aren’t responsible if anything wrong happens during the updating process: try it at your own risk!''

I tried this method with my N95-2 and it froze as soon as it started installing.

To get it to work, leave your N95 plugged in! Close NSU with taskmanger. Then restart NSU with your n95 still plugged in. It should say something like reinstall firmware, press yes and it should work straight away
