Dont need one. As it stands, you dont need a licence for any device that recieves TV signal that isn't powered by the mains.

Id feel like Im parting with my left nut if I bought a phone for £600. Thats a serious amount of money, with not much over other phones really.

Not true.

Quote:
You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set, digital box, DVD or video recorder, PC, laptop or mobile phone to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV.

If you use a digital box with a hi-fi system or another device that can only be used to produce sounds and can't display TV programmes, and you don't install or use any other TV receiving equipment, you don't need a TV Licence.

Thats interesting, they have changed it. Totally unreasonable, especially since I just paid nearly £140 just for 4 channels.

I wonder how the law stands on owning a phone like the N96. Lets ignore the fact that DVB isnt available for th UK yet, but what if you dont have a TV licence at home.

From the wording it looks like its legal to own it, but not watch it on it.

But Im not sure. Still, its pretty certain you wont get caught either way.

IMO it will be a failure in the UK. One of its main features is of no use here. The price tag is eye watering!

It would be illegal to use the receiver on the phone if you didn't own a licence. However there is little evidence to prove either way.

However..

If the "claim" that the good old TV Licensing authority can trace houses picking up TV signals without a licence, that's going to be one for the privacy freaks. Imagine them being able to pin point you anywhere in the UK when you start watching TV on your phone....!
