No. The settings on your PC should remain the same, the bit between the PC and the internet will change.

i have been using three broadband for about 3 months now, on the half price existing customer deal and it works a treat, I use it for general browsing and the odd mp3 download etc and have never come close to my 1GB allowance. For £5 a month and a free modem you can't go wrong.

your mileage may vary but i clear between 1 and 3 Mbit reliably. I suppose it depends what you consider to be 'slow as hell' and how your signal is but i'm perfectly happy with it for a fiver a month. cant get fixed line broadband for that (not that we have a fixed line at my girlfriends house anyway!)

what i will say is it's not much good for gaming as the latency is poor. You wont get much under a 200ms ping time

You really should check whether you will get 3G or HSDPA coverage where you're going to use the modem the most. I'm pretty sure that Three will do a postcode check if you give them a call.

Bear in mind that even with full coverage, you're likely to get slower speeds than you get from Virgin. I connect through my N95 (allbeit on T-Mobile) and am lucky to get past 1mb in an HSPDA area... It all hinges on how close you are to the mast and the other traffic.

Three are one of those networks who charge you if you go past the limit too... £1 p/mb. With light-normal browsing you shouldn't have too much of a problem. 1GB should do you about 30 hours of normal browsing... not too difficult to go over if you are a regular user.

You might want to have a look at some of the other networks too (for the above reasons...). I think there are quite a few cashback offers on DialaPhone for modems at the moment.

Hope this helps...

just a note on that, the three coverage checker says im not in a hspda (3.5g or turbo) area, but my n95, the broadband modem and the speed say differently. I only went for the modem after my n95 started displaying the 3.5g symbol when using data.

I wouldnt rely on the coverage checker but i'd ask someone with a 3.5g capable phone to check for you

^^ Agreed - much better way of doing it. Needs to be someone with a Three SIM - the networks do vary. It is important to find out though. It is worth pointing out that if grebo can't check with a Three mobile, it's still worth using the coverage checker.

HI guys if I went with 3 I would have been paying £14.50 (half price) for 7GB.I contacted Virgin this morning and told them my intention of moving to 3 and they have given me wot I think is a good deal.Instead of paying £25 for their M broadband I will only be paying £14.IT took me 3 phone calls over 2 weeks to get them to drop the price and now I am happy with that so I am stopping with VIRGIN.I think it shows if you persist YOU can get the price you wont.I did think about trying to get it lower but I did not wont to push my luck.THANKS all for your advice.
