I cant find a thing tbh. Every single thing I uncover never has any substance behind it, its always guessing.

That bit by Angus seems to say its got GPS. And tbh, Id be shocked if it didnt. Its not exactly hard to add, and most certainly not expensive.

Tbh the only way is to get someone who actually has one.

So lets wait for epic to read this, he can report back on what fix google maps gets him.

As good as google maps is, its certainly not a proper navigation program.

Read this VERY Carefully and follow the 'Learn More' links and the mystery deepens...

Also note this statement...
"Get directions.

Get directions to wherever from wherever. View a list of turn-by-turn directions or follow a highlighted map route and track your progress with live GPS tracking. Enjoy the view."

No mention of voice instructions you'll see... Curiouser and Curiouser...

lol..so, you can VIEW a LIST of turn by turn directions or FOLLOW a highlighted route?

that just sounds like what i do on google just now with my pc...not exactly a sat nav then...more like map reading with lists of turns to take

I give it 3 months before someone has a hack for a GPS program that offers turn by turn voice navigation and the ability to download maps in advance

FFS. To view the GPS demo I had to download quicktime. I HATE quicktime.

Anyway, watched the demo.

2 things:

When it went to the location, it followed the blue pin very smoothly, and very close. Utterly impossible by network positioning.

But then when they did the go to directions, it was not realtime, i.e. you had to manually change instruction.

So either they are waiting on google for adding realtime instructions based on GPS position, or it simply doesnt have real GPS.

Come on epic, get your rear end online.

No true GPS program will run without a GPS receiver, Google Maps, whilst it's a great utility, isn't accurate enough to give turn-by-turn directions if it has to rely on cell-location alone.

IF the iphone doesn't have either a GPS receiver in-built, or is unable to access an external one, voice navigation is a no-no!

A possibility is that it DOES have true in-built GPS but that Apple is trying to gloss over the fact that it isn't yet fully functional.

Its a no no anyway. Hacking copy protection is one thing, but actually making voice prompts and modifying it to make it the instructions realtime with the GPS signal is beyond any hacker.

Im thinking it does have a receiver, but apple just doesnt have any software that can use it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that makes no mention of confirmation/denial of a physcial GPS receiver, only voice navigation...

See here, this would suggest to me it does most certainly have a receiver http://www.n95users.com/forum/133314-post56.html

Again, correct me if I'm wrong
