Correct... When I said correct me if I'm wrong, I meant, correct me if you think I misinterprated the information given..

The information shown, both on the site in question and elswhere is all too open to misinterpretation I'm afraid...

IF the iPhone 3G does in fact have an in-built GPS receiver, which is now seeming more likely, then it's puzzling in the extreme that it should rely on Google Maps, which is devoid of spoken instructions, as its' default Sat-Nav utility.

Incidentally, if you care to peruse this support-section, you'll see that some customers appear to have bought the phone before realising that it lacks many facilities and that despite vociferous widespread adulation on the 'Net, it's very far indeed from being perfect and ready for the market!

Possibly a very simple answer... Wasn't there mentioning of a licensing agreement with Google?

Ah, spook look here: Apple - iPhone - Features - GPS

Looks like it does have GPS, they couldnt possibly put the description of satellites there and not actually have GPS.

The blurb annoys me though, they make out they are the first to have AGPS.

I looked at the support forum you gave a link to, and it appears many are annoyed at the GPS on the iphone, namely, its just google maps.

It echoes the same sort of annoyance we saw from many people who bought the N95. It advertised GPS, but wasnt actually a proper navigation system, you had to pay extra.

That was spooks link. I didnt look at that because I figured he had taken the most useful info off there.

Didnt realise it was to the same place!

If you think apple wouldnt give it a proper GPS after putting up how GPS actually works spook, you must have an extremely low opinion of apple!

Ahhh... I posted the same info a couple of pages back :P

Sp00k didn't seem to understand I was trying imply that the iPhone seems to include proper GPS... (Not just network based or AGPS)

Opps, missed that too. So many links flying about, and it was late.

Even more interesting that all this GPS business is the fact that you can only run ONE app at a time. What an utter joke!

You can't even log into a chat app and do anything else. Wow... what a smartphone. It might have be a fabulous MP3 player, but given that you can't do else with it while you listen to those tunes... that's an absolute deal breaker. You can't even use the two main functions of the thing at the same time! No web browsing and listening to music? LMFAO. Smartphone indeed. Pffft- jokers.

I play music while I look something up on the Internet all the while voice navigation runs in the background as I shoot down the road as my push email quietly operates in the background while Jaiku keeps updating and MSN and googletalk await a conversation from a contact and my call recorder waits for an incoming call to log in AMR format. I can take a picture and upload it to my flickr page right in the middle of all that if I desire and see what my friends have recently uploaded when I'm done and pick a new track to listen to. If that gets old, I can stream live TV from home. This is average usage for me.

Meanwhile an iPhone user shuts down his music player on his new magical piece of gadgetry so that he can look up a *list* of turn-by-turn directions. HA! Enjoy that.

Biggest laugh I've had on the iPhone to-date. How silly. To think- when we were dealing with the N95-1 and it's limited RAM before DP, we were all up in arms because we couldn't run more than three things at once!

Amazing.
