Photos - N96 v N82

N82 vs N96 : The Camera Comparison | ZOMG its Cj | Nokia and Symbian News, Reviews and More

No suprises about the winner, but there is a few suprises about how bad the autofocus is on the N96.

wow, what a great test,I never knew that the N82 had so much potential.
The camera on the N96 is really crappy,I'm really turned off about that phone right now.

Strange how of all of Nokia's phones that run the Carl Zeiss 5mp camera there is such a marked difference in their performance and am I right in thinking it's all down to software? I remember one of the N95-1 firmware updates making a marked difference in picture quality.

I have no problem with the photos I've asked my N96 to take, but the pictures taken are SO much better!!

Could it be just down to firmware, as theorized ? The xennon flash in the N82 is always going to beat LEDs, but the N96 does seem to have issuses with focusing and light handling. I would expect firmware updates to cure this. It would be interesting to compare an N82 with older firmware to an N96 and another N82 with the latest firmware.

I notice that he said the auto focus on the N96 was much much faster. Maybe Nokia got it wrong in trying to make it faster.

In theory, the firmware updates can sort this, though it might mean auto focus speeds dropping.

Wow, wouldn't have expected such a difference in the daytime shots - go my beautiful N82! Nokia has a ways to go for its next imaging flagship if it wants to beat Samsungs offerings, thats for sure.

after reading this post i headed out to the backgarden to snap some marco shots on my n96

i was amazed at how bad the focus is on marco mode

i was taking a pic of a flower head and it wouldnt auto focus on it at all it kept focusing on the background

as the author from the link said about 80-90 percent of the time it would not focus on what i wanted it to

i have been using auto mode normally and the pictures can be quite good in good conditions allthough a bit noisy for my likings in the dark

but this marco mode is terrible , ive emailed nokia about it , iam hoping they allready knew about it and can sort it out in a future update as marco mode is really important on a camera of any kind to me

i cant believe how bad it was , i was in the garden for 20 mins hoping it would get better , but allthough the lock on time is lighning fast the auto focus on marco mode just hasnt got a clue whats going on

its kind of like marco mode dosent exsist or someone forgot to program the camera software for marco mode

bit dissapointed on this one but hopefull nokia can fix it (fingers crossed)
