An Ovi Mail Review
Currently I use 2 emails......one for business and one for friends etc
With the new OVI.......I decided to use for friendly emails....... Now while I like the fact that its ovi and its all about integration....they are a few "make it or break it" flaws which I hope to be rectified. Contacts- When writing an email and selecting a contact..........try selecting another..... I usually get a prompt stating "ovi does not recognize one or more email address" This happens as adding another recipient causes OVI to create a "<" sign prior to the email addressed recipient. Only removing this will I be able to send an email to multiple recipients. This is a bother as if i want to add multiple recipients...OVI should be capable of adding in the correct format.thus allowing me to just click send and not having to edit. Another issue with contacts is any contact with multiple assigned emails.......for example i tried sending an email to a friend who has an OVI account as well as a yahoo account. Both addresses are saved under my friends details. The OVI account is set as what im stating as the "priority" account. However im unable to select WHICH email i prefer to send the mail to. I have to manually enter the address. There should be an option that when i select my friend "Joe" i have an option to select WHICH address i want to send the email to. Lastly, when i try to manually enter "Joe's" address, the autofill which pops up....only recognizes the "priority" email.......thus defeating the purpose.......of the autofill. Attachments- There is a good and bad here.....I was pleasantly surprized when i selected a file and immediately the file appeared. Nice I thought! Instant! I was wrong......It seems adding an attachment gives you the feeling that its all ready to go but by selecting "send"... depending on how many attachments they are.....sending may take quite a while..... To be honest.....i rather it the other way around.....My suggestion to the OVI mail team is.....when the user selects a file to attach.......the user can see a "progress bar" with a percentage of how much of the file is being uploaded as it uploads......Those of us here who use the new hotmail will understand what im stating.....i personally think this is a great option..... 1. it allows the user to see how the attachment upload is progressing...thus knowing/estimating of how long the upload will/may take....... 2. On clicking send.......the message will then be sent immediately.......as the files will be finished uploading..... 3. I personally think this method is much more "user friendly" and more people will opt for this method rather than the current one.......which is the files seeming to be ready and then the LONG wait before its actually sent........ I got cheeky and decided to send a converted movie to myself......t he good.....at 600+MB Ovi did not warn me that it was over any limits!!!! now that was great! Compared to the 10MB limit of other email clients......... The bad.......sending a movie/file of this size reinterates the prior point.....it took too long to send...so much so that i just opted to cancel.......now one can understand the logic of having a "progress percentage" bar visible and the logic of waiting for the file to be uploaded rather than waiting for the file to be sent.......when one thinks its already attached..... 4. My last suggestion with attachments is the aspect of selecting multiple files......this is directed mainly to uploading pictures....... Again in comparison to another email client........the other client gives the user the ability to select files individually or "select all" and whats nice as well is the ability to view these pictures as thumbnails AND edit each photo (name, tag, rotate picture etc) i would like to see this implemented QUICKLY with OVI....... Lastly, syncing OVI on my mobile. So far it has been a "smooth" experience.......... I receive my mail......can view all of my folders.......and send mail seemlessly...... even here.......OVI doesnt limit me to the size of a file ive attached......which is kudos to OVI again!!!!! The bad about the sync is that links received in an email cannot be highlighted and there is no "open link" option. What i can say for OVI here is that may other mobile email clients dont do this...... But that is no reason why OVI shouldnt!!!!! This is another option i would like to see integrated into OVI.......... I know this sounds like a rant of what OVI lacks.......it is not........ OVI mail is far from being a finished polished product.....however the OVI team must take into consideration that with many mobile clients out there they MUST bring something to the table which allows users to "move away" from the "traditional" clients.....and move towards OVI mail as "THE" option and not "one of the options"....... With my suggestions as well as the suggestions of other users along with the brilliant minds of the OVI mail team.......OVI mail can make it to the mainstream....... This is my thoughts thus far on OVI mail............ |

I am too altogether pleased with OVI mail, however yesterday I was trying to send an e-mail music wish to a radio station DJ,I found myself looking at my composed e-mail waiting in line to be delivered, and that took ages, although I was connected via WLAN.Weird, must have been some server error, cuz I was doing everything like I used to.
