"There were shortcomings with 2008's iPhone 3G and its software... No text manipulation (not even basic cut and paste)... no Flash plug-ins for the browser, no video recording, no voice memos."
Shortcomings? That's akin to calling 9/11 'unfortunate'... Those weren't shortcoming... Those were glaring omissions, leaving out basic facilities that EVERY supposed smartphone should contain... Shortcomings indeed! The iPhone is still playing catch-up, even on it's third iteration of a virtually identical device... Is Mr.Fry this easily swayed by Apple propaganda?

It's all well and good the device being capable and having software to do something, but if the network charges a premium for it, we need to be aware... About a year ago, I asked O2 if I could use my data for tethering and they said: (a) they didn't know what it was (b) Data is data, do what you like with it

The thing is though that the I-phone has been adopted and is now a mass market device.
Apple have certainly taken their iphone and pushed it into the public consciousness in a very efficient way. If only Nokia had some of Apple marketing savvy. The people on this forum are only too aware as to what their n-series phones can do -its the poor uneducated public that goes 'ooh' and 'ahh' when they see or hear about an iphone. Personally, i see through every apple 'update' for what it is- blatant emperors new clothes syndrome- the phone doesn't cut the mustard - apple are about three years behind nokia technically, but they are light years ahead of Nokia in marketing their underpowered phone. |
