oh well being that it is smartphone that they are talkin, nokia is having a big competition with blackberry here in jamaica since they are offering unlimited internet at a very cheap rate so nokia should be looking into something like what RIM have going on for their blackberry.
P.S- currently i am pondering into getting a blackberry |

If Nokia keep going as they are with the crappy smartphones like the 5800 and N97 then this will happen, but chances are they'll sort themselves out if it starts anyway.
Tbh, their only problem really is the Symbian OS imo, so they need to sort it out or use something else for a few phones. |

I have to say, that's a bit far off. not sure about the N97 not having used it, but the 5800 is a bloody good device. Yeah, it has some drawbacks, but for the price it's a truely amazing bit of kit. Many people agree, and I am not a Nokia fanboy. That should be very clear from my recent posts, and aim to go to Samsung and Android.

Depends on specs and price, but I have had a play with Android and the market place has some awesome apps, mostly free. The OS improves very much after each revision (for old phones too), and they listen to what users say. The Samsung i7500 fits the 5800 upgrade spec nicely.

After trying out the N97, I rapidly came to the conclusion that the quality of sound output from the Nokia flagship model was, to put it politely, nothing short of PATHETIC! This alone was enough for me to RMA it, add to that the fact that the FM transmitter was a very feeble effort and that the much-vaunted slide/flip mechanism was inherently unstable, lacking a second stabilising-bar and hence of uneven solidity when extended and I had no hesitation in rejecting it after only a very few hours.... I didn't need a fortnight of using it to decide!! Since reading of all the problems and niggles that buyers have had with this model, I can only express relief that I'm not lumbered with it. OK, this and that... and that and the other can and probably will be fixed in firmware updates... But this is not an inexpensive general-purpose phone that Nokia put on the market and that can be expected to be improved upon... This is their FLAGSHIP MODEL... The top of their smartphone range! I wouldn't buy a good-quality car and be content to wait until the next service-interval, or maybe even the next one or two after that before I had tyres that didn't need re-inflating every 200 miles, before I had steering that followed a straight line when you took your hands of the wheel and before I had a sunshine-roof that didn't leak in a slight drizzle... This is what Nokia is expecting of its customers though! I'm anything but an Apple fan-boi, in my opinion, they have a very pretty phone that's still playing catch-up... Nor am I a Nokia fan-boi and I'd tell anyone thinking of buying an N97 "Don't be a mug, if you must have the Nokia flagship phone, wait until Nokia get it right... maybe even for the N97 MKII because the current version as regards both hardware and firmware, leaves a LOT to be desired" Don't listen too attentively to those who, having bought the N97, justify its shortcomings with... 'what can you expect, it's early firmware, it's bound to get better, look at the N95 when it first came out.' I bought the first of the N95's and yes, via a succession of firmware updates, it was greatly improved upon... You'll noticed that I say IMPROVED... I don't say REPAIRED, as the N97 apparently needs to be! ;)

Tommie, I grew tired of hearing all the spiel excusing and justifying the N97... in my opinion... and that's all it is, an opinion from my brief hands-on experience... Nokia goofed... And goofed very badly indeed!
How is it that they can get it so right and give such good value-for-money with the 5800 and yet get it so terribly wrong 6 months down the line with a device that sells at twice the price? Agreed, the majority of users complaints can be cured by better firmware, though not the speaker quality, certainly not the flip instability and I doubt if anything can be done about the weak FM transmitter... But why wasn't the firmware tested more thoroughly before release? I don't demand it to be perfect initially but these aren't just one or two annoying bugs... Which may be expected... These are programming faults that the phone is riddled with!! To enlarge upon the thread topic... No, I can't see Nokia 'going down the pan' anytime soon, the top-end smart-phones aren't their bread-and-butter, they sell a vast range of devices, far more than the competition, over far wider markets. But unless Nokia start to give the consumer what they want, as opposed to what Nokia thinks that they ought to have, then they'll almost certainly become a minority player in the power-user field. Many have asked for a tough candy-bar with Xenon flash, good camera with lens protection, (option of OLED display maybe?), powerful processor and good battery-life... And what does Nokia push onto us, seemingly proclaiming that the must-have features are the pop-out keyboard and the on-screen widgets?... Yes, you guessed it! Some of us bought the 5800 as a stop-gap measure, with the intention of trying-out Nokias touch-screen and then later upgrading to the touch-screen flagship... After experiencing the Nokia touch-screen flagship, I strongly suspect that the stop-gap phone, from Nokias point of view IS the so-called flagship... It had better be or Nokia has serious problems as regards innovation! Compared to what the N95 brought us, a new hinge mechanism and on-screen live updates just doesn't cut it for me.
