Question new here

Hi all,

I currently have an N80 on orange £30 per month 300 mins 100 text and 60 mins video and free orange broadband and i've only ever been with orange since 1997 ish.

I'm looking to upgrede to the N95 but i've heard of a few conflicting things.

on one hand the battery life is ok if you don't use the gps and on the other its rubbish full stop.

I spoke to orange upgrades and retensions / disconnections and they could only do it as an upgread for £150. The lady also said that i shouldn't bother with the N95 as thay have had so many returned.

What should i do?

Sure the same was said about the N80, returns, then a lot of providers stopped offering it. Don't always beleive what you hear from the Phone Shops / Customer Service, they often only hear the bad stories and only get hassle from people with complaints so they never hear the good stories, then they just pass on the bad 'uns.

Afterall all they want to do is sell you a phone that they will get a bit of commission on and no hassle so they don't really care what phone you get.

I had/have the N80 also, it is much sturdier than the N95 which you will find light and a wee bit flimsy in comparison but it is much more stylish and of course more features.

I find the Wlan much stronger / better range than the N80

N95 GPS works very well and yes it sucks the life outta your battery but you will mainly have it in a car so as long as you have a car charger then it's not hassle. Generally I find the battery life better on the N95 (perhaps I have less apps running so far though)

Oh, and if you are paying them £30 pre month I think you should get a better offer on the handset price than that. Know someone recently who extended their £17 Vodafone contract for 18 months and got the N95 for £84.95 - excellent deal imho.

So what to do : go back to Orange, get a better deal, perhaps wait around here and see if any other Orangers can tell you what deals they got. Get the N95, enjoy it, if you really don't like it stick in on Ebay and stay with your N80

Oh and another point just in case you didn't realise (I didn't until I had ordered the 95, your N80 memory card won't fit as it's mini SD, 95 takes micro-SD. I got a free 512mb micro thrown in on my deal which did me until I got a bigger one ordered.

The N95 is the most high powered ultra versatile device available to mere mortals on the market today. Install the right software, and it will scratch your *** for you. It's a killer phone and mine has been worth every cent. (Well, penny, as the case may be over here). If you're a high-end power user, you won't regret the purchase!

yep, if you are a user that just wants to make and receive calls and have not really used many of the features on your N80 then consider not bothering.

But if you like to spend the time learning and getting the most from your gadgets then this is the ultimate. Add into the mix that you have built in SatNav that really works and it must be a winner for many many users

I agree....I was initially 'discouraged' from buying my current N95 by the sales person simply because he wasn't really clear about the functions of the phone and whether or not any additional fee was required for the GPS operation....Nevertherless, I went on to purchase it and never regretted it...

It's just ridiculous, there definitley seems to be a lack of training / knowledge for the people who are supposed to be selling these things.

When I was getting mine, the girl told me two things...

1. they have had a lot of returns with various problems
2. it is very expensive to use the SatNav, some cutsomer had recently used his to travel from Stoke to somwhere and it cost him a fortune.

Obviously again the first point is just an example of them only seeing the problems, the disgruntled customers, no consideration given to the many more who have had a positive experience

The second point, because a guy in work had the n95 and I had talked to him at length about it I was pretty sure you could download maps, turn off GPRS access and all is fine. But it made me think twice, I had to double check.
