Just had my holidays by visiting the UK then coming home via Barcelona, Valencia and Alicante.
Stayed in a Travel Lodge in the UK, High Wycombe, informed that WiFi was available. Checked with reception was informed that the charge was £15 for 24 hours connection, and £75 for 5 day connection. Returned to Spain stayed in two hotels enquired for their Wifi and told it was FREE. Question is how can the UK justify these exorbitant prices? So what is the situation in your country? BTW have enquired through other people living in Spain and it appears that providing you are staying at the hotel anywhere in Spain WiFi is Free. CD

Hopefully it will catch on in the UK eventually. I intentionally avoid hotels that charge for WiFi. It's mainly the chains such at Hilton, Travel Lodge and Holiday Inn that seem to want to rip you off. I just look for hotels that don't charge and there is an abundance to be honest. Usually better and cheaper than the chains too.
You can also pick up free wifi in any Varsity Pub, Wetherspoons, McDonalds, any Brains house - in fact most Bars I find usually have free Wifi. Beauly hotels are free also. erm Can't remember any more - but there are. It's not all bad over here. :) Plus there's thousands of FON spots all over the place.

Nice to know that there are some hotels are not charging for WiFi.
My point is. How can the Rip Off ones Justify charging their exorbitant prices. Surely, once it's installed it's virtually a negative cost to run. I live in a top floor apartment block of ten, with Wifi installed, costs me €30 (£25 to £27) a month to run, that includes free phone calls to UK. I have given free access to four of the our neighbours, which doesn't cost me an extra penny. So I ask again Why do these people charge these exorbitant prices ? Can Anyone working in Hotels or Travel Lodges enlighten me ? Good on the ones that don't though. CD.

If you want wifi then stay at a proper hotel and check the price beforehand (the cost quite clearly stated on the Travel Lodge website for instance). Quote:
BTW, you should check your terms and conditions, It may be that you are not allowed to share your connection the way you have, in any case you might find you are held responsible for anything these other people do with the connection. |

Cloud hotspots are not free. Use of them is included in some mobile and broadband packages though.

Homer.
The people I allow to share my broadband WiFi with are what is commonly known as Silver Surfers. So no problem there. They just keep in touch with their children at home. Admitted Travel Lodges are not Hotels but at £70 a night is not hardly cheap in my book. Still think it's a blatant rip of. Would be very interested to hear what some of our other members have to pay, or not in their country's. By the way virtually all of the bars, hotels and restaurants are free over here so how do they get on with terms and conditions etc. I don't think I have any worries. The big attraction here in the bars is the fact that they have WiFi connections at €1 Euro an hour or Free to drinking customers. CD

during the summer, i holidayed in the south of italy. living in holland meant that i was able to take a leisurely drive down to Naples via Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
i stopped when i felt like it and i didn't choose my hotels beforehand. all in all, i stayed in 9 different hotels of all shapes, sizes and chains and not once did i have to pay for the WiFi connection. mainland europe isn't such a bad place after all.
