After using the Nokia Booklet 3G I have found that the 1Gb would easily run work if all you did was turn it on and leave it running. However you are obviously not going to do this, Micky has recently said that if you stop running F-Secure then it works a lot better. I know that working with your anti-hacker/virus programs turned off is a very stupid thing to do however could they replace it with a better program?
The Booklet does need more RAM but this isn't due to running Windows 7, it is because Nokia have added programs into the mix which simply use up too much RAM. While using the Booklet I have found if I am running all the Nokia applications, MSN and IE then IE does not respond a lot. It always recovers and then moves to where it was heading but tends to freeze first. So in short 1Gb RAM is more than enough to run Windows 7 (samisnake's point) , however in this particular device it just isn't enough due to other influences (Bartmanekul's point). But let me just point out the battery already lasts a good 8 hours of use so the life of that is not really an issue unless you plan on starting at 9am and stopping at 9pm without a break to charge, which is bad for your health anyway. And other than the RAM issues, it is a very nice and well thoughout device. It is a shame that once again Nokia seems to have neglected the importance of RAM.

That is the kind of review i have been looking for. Thank you very much. Much appreciated.
Are there any other netbook/smartbook/laptops. you know of that you can slip your sim card in and make use of? Or that are worth looking at? By the way i see you have the N97, Now that there have been come firmware updates what do you think of it? I sorta been casually looking for an upgrade from my nokia n95. Thanks thecozz |

There are a lot of laptops which come with a SIM card slot, it is just a case of finding them. I know this as my work use all laptops with SIM slots due to our need for constant connection. They are mainly Panasonic, but we also use some HP with this option.
The N97 is fine I am only on v20 as I have a Vodafone branded handset and I have to wait for them to do all of their approval tests before I can get hold of it. Although I must admit that the free Ovi Maps with navigation is now a very big draw to stay with the device. I do find that there are RAM issues and I have had a couple of instances where it reboots twice and deletes all my messaging settings.

Practically what my blog is going to say at the end of this trial, which is unfortunate because the more I use the device the more I fall in love with the form and build quality, however the more I realise I hate the lack of RAM with "(Not Responding)" appearing ever more.
I can sfaely use the Booklet 3G for a day with TweetDeck, MSN and IE all running but I think if I tried to do much more it wouldn't handle it and for that reason could never replace my laptop which is capable of much heavier tasks. Having said this netbooks, which is the category that the Booklet 3G falls into are not designed for heavy use and are mainly for portable document editing and photo viewing. They are expensive devices for what they are designed to do and that is why people expect so much more from them.

I found that documents/spreadsheets with MSN, IE and thunderbird running slowed down on W7 with 1GB. This was with both open office and microsoft office. I suspect it's worse on the booklet, given the extra services running.
I don't feel this is more than light use (browsing, email and IM with a document/spreadsheet), not even giving the oppertunity for a RAM upgrade is very bad indeed.
