Ovi maps - compatibility and installation guide
Ovi Maps - Installation and compatibility.
Compatibility Note that compatibility can also be firmware dependant - for more about firmware and how to upgrade, go here: How to check and upgrade your firmware. E52, E55, E72, 5230, 6710 Navigator, 5800XM, X6, N97 mini, N97. A note on compatibility - while other handsets are listed after you click on 'other' on the dropdown menu on the Ovi maps page, this does not install the latest free version, and the sis file for the new one doesn't seem to work on any phones other than listed as compatible. The word on supporting other handsets is 'soon', though no-one but Nokia can tell us when, so don't ask! Installing Installation note - While there are multiple ways of installing Ovi maps, I and others have come across various issues with them and while the following isn't the only way, it's the way that seems to have the least problems. First make sure you have ample memory in your phone. You should really have at least 10MB free on the C drive. To check this, go to: applications - file manager (this may be different depending on handset model - see manual if unsure). It's labelled C: Phone memory. If you do not have enough space, either delete some apps or do a hard reset (this will delete all data off the phone, including any installed applications). Next, go here: Free Navigation on your Nokia. Forever - Ovi Maps - Downloads Choose your device. Check you have the firmware noted on the prompt that appears upon selecting phone. Ok that. While you can get it sent via text, I find it much less hassle to download the file directly. You can do this by clicking on the text saying 'Or download without data charges using PC or Mac.' The version for the N97 does not allow you to download the file, you have to do it via the software update in the menu. Once downloaded, you can either install via PC/Ovi suite by connecting your phone and clicking on the sis file, or simply put the sis file onto the memorycard of your phone, and using file/data manager to browse to it, and install. Start Ovi maps once, as this is required before using map loader. It should look like this: ![]() You might be missing a few icons if you haven't got a connection, or allowed it online yet. If it doesn't look like that, you have probably installed an older version of Ovi maps. Shutdown and reconnect to the PC using a USB cable in PC suite mode. Now, you should download Map loader via the same link as before. Do not use Ovi suite for installing maps, since this has caused problems for members also, even though it downloads and seems to install. Make sure you get the voices you want via the maploader - none are installed by default. Run Ovi maps again. Try to test it out, including the voice and drive. Assuming it works, check out this thread to get the most out of your free satnav: Getting the most out of Ovi Maps Enjoy!
