Actually, it's the chinese that make it... And I'm surprised that you even try to take credit for the iPhone, in your position I'd have kept very quiet! ;)

BTW, it seems that here in the UK, we aren't quite so easily convinced as our US cousins are... This from coolsmartphone.com.. "o2 have also been dealt a hammer-blow after "reliable channel sources" reported that just 26,500 iPhones have been activated here in the UK since the launch. o2 had hoped to sell over 100,000 in the first week." OOPS!

it looks like O2 is having problems keeping its UK iPhone fleet connected to their network. Reports are coming in that O2 iPhone users are having problems acquiring a good signal in the UK, or any signal for that matter - many users are reporting that their iPhones usually present a “No Service,” or an occassional single-bar of wireless reception, status.

But that most be normal? Dont iphone allways stands for "No service"
and yes looks like the UK people not be so easy swindled..)

So, how did O2 fare in their initial iPhone sales? Not as well as they would have liked, apparently. “Slow” would be one way to describe iPhone sales in the UK. The Register reports that initial iPhones sales figures have yet to break 30,000 units - with 26,500 iPhones having been activated in the two weeks since the iPhone’s launch on O2. Carphone Warehouse reported sales of 11,000 units over the launch weekend. And, an unnamed source told AppleInsider that the premier Apple Store in the UK, located on Regent Street, was still working to sell the entirety of their initial iPhone stock - which was shipped to the store prior to the iPhone’s UK launch on November 9. The Regent Street Apple Store has reportedly been selling a laggardly 100 iPhone handsets per day (compare that with the LG Shine that effectively sold more than 10,000 units worldwide for every day it was on the market this past year). Or Nokia with over 1 000 000 units evry day

Oh it was a total joke- just as the iPhone is. ;)

Yeah- the iPhone has actually done better than I thought it would over there. It's a pretty advanced and educated market in the UK- I'm shocked that it's selling over there at all!

Now, to get back off-topic...

I doubt very much that you're even half as shocked as O2 is over the marked lack of demand for the iPhone in the UK, they were seriously expecting a repeat of the US hysteria over it... They drafted extra staff in and prepared entertainment for the anticipated massive queues... That never happened!

"O2 will add 1,400 staff prior to the launch of the handset on Friday to ensure it can cope with the unprecedented demand for the flashy phone. It will take on around 700 new customer service employees in Glasgow and Leeds, with a further 700 staff added across the company's chain of High Street stores," Fildes reports.

"O2 and Carphone Warehouse are bracing themselves for a stampede of customers when the iPhone goes on sale at 6pm on Friday," From here...

I read that one of the conditions laid down by Apple in order for O2 to be granted exclusive rights to the iPhone was that they undertook to spend umpteen million GBP on advance publicity, out of their own pocket... I seem to remember that it was 10 million but I can't be sure about that.

The US telco customer expects to pay through the nose for both a contract AND a phone, here it's either one or the other, not both... If we take out a relatively expensive contract, we expect (and get) the phone for virtually nothing... Some customers who turned up to get iPhones turned on their heels on learning that as well as a 35GBP/month contract, they were going to have to pay 269 GBP on top for the actual phone... We just don't do business that way with mobile phones over here.

I suspect that O2 are now desperately trying to cover-up the fact that by launching the iPhone, they've taken a massive hit! ... Rather than had one!

This report seems to sum it up quite neatly... NOTE! You MUST read the "Technology Clinic: Your iPhone Questions Answered" section!!

This UK trade chat page (from before the launch) might make interesting reading for some of you!

A further little snippet about this wonderful 'smartphone'... re: the latest Google Maps app, with 'My Location' incorporated...
"It won’t work on the iPhone because the Google Maps App is built in to the iPhone software and can not be upgraded unless Apple issue an update. However, on other phones you can download the Google Maps App and install it with the My Location feature built in. Until Apple update the Google Maps App on the iPhone I don’t think we will see My Location appearing." Oh Dear!
