Because if they were good sales staff who knew what they were talking about, they would have told you to immediately disable the network access on the Nokia Maps GPS software.
Luckily when I bought my N95 from 02 they advised me of this precaution to avoid racking up a massive data bill. |

If you havent already downloaded the actual maps using your computer, then the phone will download them 'on the fly' via your phones 'WAP' connection.
You could try the line that they didnt tell you it would happen, but they will probably tell you that you should have read the manual unfortunately. |

A navigator?
Do you mean a navigator phone, a 6110 navigator, or an N95? If you used a navigator, then you should have been using route66 which doesnt use data. However if you were using an N95, or downloaded nokia maps onto a navigator then its most likely you didnt download the maps prior to using it. Give us some more details, then we can help. |

Route66 wont download the maps over the air anyway, so its not that. Did you install nokia maps (and any other applications for that matter) on it?

I can understand you'd be worried to get a call about your unbilled usage of this level if you're used to having bills around £30.00. Normally before we would take a look at the charges and speak about them with you, we'd need to wait for them to be billed. The charges will be different when billed and would take into account the whole of the month so that we can see the fuller picture of what we're dealing with rather than a small portion of the month. In the meantime, to restore the service you would normally need to make a payment towards the unbilled charges. My best advice to you would be to get in touch with us in the forum team via our e-mail service. Make sure you include all of the details surrounding the situation and that your account information is filled in on the contact form. That way, we can access your account and correspond with you about it. If you follow this link to the e-mail form on the Vodafone website, this will take you to the form. If you include the code FIT135 anywhere in the actual body of your query, (not in the subject field), this will be routed to us here in the forum team. We'll then take a look at your account. It may be worth waiting until this is billed before contacting. Hopefullyuseful Vodafone UK |

I had a similar problem with O2 through carphone warehouse when i bought my N80.
I was told that I could browse the internet 'free' for the first month, up to a limit of 5 megs (Or gig) -i can't remember. Anyway the information given by the sales staff related to wap pages, not internet pages so pretty soon i'd exceeded it -big time! -I ended up with a bill of about £75.00- and when i complained, nobody wanted to know- they were useless- they just wanted the money with no excuses. I considered myself lucky- it could have been a lot more if i'd really started using it. I paid the money- but now i wouldn't touch O2 or carphone with a bargepole. Good luck with your complaint. ps - i use T-mobile now- £7.50 / month unlimited browsing- its great! |

Hopefully useful, if your still reading, I have a suggestion you could put forward to whomever.
It would be good if vodafone put a limit on data per month. The very best option, is that when signing up (via website or phone or store) the buyer gets asked if they want to limit their data. Im sure its possible to set up either an alert (perhaps one which texts the user when they hit a limit, warning them) or stop the actual data after this limit has been hit. With more and more internet phones coming out, and more apps that use data, these sort of complaints will only rise. |
