N95 with other Network

Hi everybody!
I'm new here and I have some doubts..

My father is going to England and I told him to buy me one...I was looking some prices (Dial-A-Phone)

the question is, is there any way to use the cell phone in Brazil, with other Network??

If yes, is it safe (like, the process to debrand, unlock, etc) ?!

Thanks everybody!!

if you're looking to use the phone worldwide, you should just get the phone per se without any contracts or locked to a particular network.

the one that you linked is locked to orange and their contract

Ok, but, here in Brazil, we don't have Orange network, so I have to use another network...the question is, there is any way to use the cell phone in Brazil, like...I was thinking about this:

my father buy the cell phone with Orange contract, but he cancel the contract or never use it and came back to Brazil...here, I unlock to use with another network...

can I do this??

i'm afraid not. you can't cancel a contract as there'll be early termination charges which is alot. even if you don't use the plan, you'd still have to pay for it monthly until the contract ends.

what you can do is get your dad to find shops that sell just the phone only, without any plans or contracts. i'm pretty sure there're nokia shops in England, and you'd be able to buy direct from them Nokia UK - Phones | Nseries | Nokia N95 8GB

there's plenty of threads about unlocking and debranding that will help you accomplish this. In short yes you can. Check the tips and FAQs tabs at the top

like Hairil said the contract is the only part that will give you a problem here

well how much is it to cancel the contract early? Also it might be an easy way to pay monthly for the phone taking into account monthly cost of contract * length of contract. See which way is cheaper in the end

No, you don't really get the phone free - you have to pay £540 = 18 months x £30.

If you were to use the phone on Orange in the UK, then the phone would be free and you would be paying every month for line rental plus minutes and SMS.

In your case the phone will cost £540, since this must be paid to Orange under the contract - regardless whether you use your minutes and texts or not. Therefore £422 is better than £540.

ok see that's what I was wondering, I know you don't ever make out in the deal but paying monthly or paying all up front depends on whether or not you have the cash to shell out up front. With AT&T we can change our contract at anytime so I wonder if you could sign up and then just change it to the minimum possible contract if you don't have the cash to dish out. Not sure how things work over there so just throwing out ideas.

Either way you can unlock and debrand phones after you get them

I doubt very much that Orange will sell a contract to a foreign national anyway. They do credit checks etc.

You could get one on pre-paid, or just buy a SIM free one.

I thought Brazil used the same 3G network frequencies as the US (I may be wrong on that though) so if you intend to use 3G you will need an N95-3, which are very hard to get hold of in the UK.
