T-Mobile firmware updates...
First post...
Hi, I wondered if anyone had any word on when T-Mobile are likely to release the new firmware - my brand new N95-1 is running v12.0.03... I'm not keen on changing the product key, I really do value my warranty after having an N70 for 18 months... Cheers, Tom |

Thanks for the welcome!
Sorry - normal forum ideas... use the search. T-Mobile don't seem to want to release the new firmware. I say new... |

Dont think it will come any time soon. I have just debranded as some of the new apps require V20 to work..

I rung T-Mobile who said that because the N95 is 'stable' on the network with v12.0.013 and there is no need for the update. Seriously considering debranding but the guy said that the components of the update can be downloaded individually from the Nokia site. I can't think NGage or FL3 will work that well without demand paging?

Just quickly, I don't think it will ever happen if you have brought it from an actually T-Mobile store. However if you got it from Phones 4 You then there is actually upgrade. Just check there product codes which can be found in the firmware update guide.
So in my opinion debrand or use a P4U code. As I don't think holding your breathe is going to help on this one.

Presumably the P4U version comes with all the T-Mob settings pre-installed?

I am not too sure as I never tried to install it, I just went for the straight debrand as there is nothing T-Mobile gave me that I really wanted or found useful.

A quick warning
Just so you're informed...there are risks with unbrading. First some of the guides here are old so they hadn't realised at the time that Nokia will REFUSE to ever repair your phone if you debrand it. They know you've done it (I've seen the screen when I tried to get mine repaired and it said "Unauthorised firmware: Firmware number too high".
Basically there is a problem with T-Mobile and this firmware. This post explains it: http://www.n95users.com/forum/connec...-uk-error.html Just be sure you're prepared to have a SERIOUSLY gimped phone if things don't work out as there is NO GOING BACK. You cannot rebrand after flashing to the newer firmware unless the unlikely event of T-Mobile ever releasing a HIGHER firmware number than v21 (hint: never) Right now I'm stuck with a phone that CAN'T access Gmail (or any other online email like Hotmail or Yahoo) as the browser can no longer make secure (read SSL certified or encrypted) connections. This also stops you using services like N-Gage as that connects securely. You'll not be able to download things from the Nokia Download! program...this too is secure. The only cure is to switch the phone from 3G to GSM...it works...but it's slower than slow. Imagine trying to watch Youtube back in the dialup days...that slow. PLEASE think about it. If Youtube and N-Gage is that important go ahead...but on T-Mobile the risks are high. PS. Any guff T-Mobile fed you about the firmware being "stable" as the reason is complete rubbish. The real reason is the new firmware gives you access to certain services (anything to do with Nokia's OVI service) that cuts into T-Mobile's profit margins. They DON'T want you buying games from N-Gage when they get a cut from games you buy from them by Gameloft ect. Gameloft don't care if you buy the game from T-Mobile, N-Gage or directly from them...T-Mobile do. They also care if you download music from Nokia's music store instead of theirs.
