Contract up for renewal

So, my T-mobile contract is up for renewal- at the moment I get unlimited texts, unlimited browsing and 300 minutes for £20 / month.

Vodafone are offering a 12 month contract with unlimited texts, 500GB or MB browsing and 900 minutes for £20 / month.

The vodafone deal sounds good to me- but i've not used their network yet.

I've an N86- use it all the time- will the 500 GB or MB limit be enough? - everyone in Vodafone insists its very generous- but lets face it- they'll say anything to sell you a contract won't they??

Anyone got any thoughts or advice as to best network and best prices.

Ideally I'm looking for unlimited texts - unlimited browsing and probably about 500+ minutes if possible.

I don't really want internet browsing with a cut down service- ie Vodafone allow you to use iplayer - whereas T-mobile block it?

-Which carriers are best for unfettered browsing and for using their networks in whatever way I feel? -ie fring, iplayer ,messenger etc etc

It's mb, not GB. However a number of people reported going over and not being told off.

If you want to see if it's enough, just ring Tmobile and ask for an average of your data usage per month. They should be able to provide you with this. As it is, no-one else can guess what you use for data.

I hate t mobile with a passion...all their stupid little charges for like not having a direct debit!

I'd try with o2 , they are always good never had a issue with them and they always stump up good deals

Im currently with vodafone and getting 600 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited web and vodafone passport for 29 quid

Signal wise ive not lost my signal yet... even drove into country roads and still had like 3 bars out of 7!..

Vodafone CST are very good as well i'd haggle a bit more for more of a deal as what they have offered you is not fab haggle more for web

I'm being tempted to go to voda - at the moment.

Am I right in thinking that voda still allow iplayer downloads and streaming?
Can I still use MSN messenger - what about email and apps like fring and Nimbuzz? -are they blocked?

of course it also depends whether t-mobile give me some decent loyalty- ie unlimited text, browsing and a good few hundred minutes for maybe £15 / month -if they don't give me any loyalty - then i'll be showing them no loyalty either.

I've heard mixed things about O2 - maybe they are better now, but i heard that their 3G was a bit rubbish?! -is that the case or are they as good as the other networks?

yeah mate i do believe you can use voda 3g to stream bbc iplayer

nimbuzz and the likes are not blocked either

it says 500mb but again its fair useage policy when i used them ive been over 1gb and havent been charged or had a warning

voda are very good at the min , maybe check coverage in your area though via a friends phone or something :-)

voda still do 12 month deals even on phones like the n900 , albeit the n900 on a 12 month deal would cost you £50 a month with 900 mins unlimted txts and unlimted net , the 12 month deals on high end phones are only avalible in store though

voda have alot going for them mate , mobile tv packages , good network covearge , customer services have improoved , voda eforum has actual mods that can do stuff instead of just user to user - competitive tariffs ,

edit
o2 seem to be going a bit downhill at the minute , lack of phones , exspensive tariffs , only 18 month deals , not the best 3g coverage , customer servces not as goos as they were , o2 forums is just user to user ,

the best thing about o2 is you can video call with your inclusive mins and also send mms with your inclusive sms and when abroad 1 sms from say turkey will use 4 sms from your allowance

they are the only network to offer this

its up to you what you want from your netwrok , for example if you video call and sms vodafone will cost a bomb where as o2 will be cheap

if you want mobile tv voda will be better as you can use voda tv or iplayer via 3g

with vodafone you can also upgrade 70 days early as standard compared to o2s 30 day unless you spend over 50 a month on o2 then you can upgrade 90 days in advance as a gold customer

Thats good to read -cheers Buxz - its a toss up between T-mobile comng back with a decent lower tariff (ie some decent loyalty) -or I'll jump ship to Voda and go for the £20 / month tariff of 500mb + unlimited text + 900 minutes.

Contracts up on the 6th Feb- so not long to wait....

Vodafone are pretty good for the reasons already stated. However when it comes to new contract time with them you have to be prepared to haggle. I wanted the N97 last June I spend around £95 a month with them on my and my missuses phone. They wanted to charge me £150 for it so I asked for the PAC codes for both phones. Cue much panic in the store. First I spoke with with the store manager who was sympathetic to my claim that £95 a month for two phones was £5 a month more than a new customer could get two N97's for. She put me through on the phone to a department that wasn't but should have been called 'retentions'. I had to argue with them to get what I wanted. In the end it boiled down to they wanted to keep me but I wanted to go with my PAC code so they gave in. It was like pulling hens teeth.

T-mobile seem to have new tariffs- i could go for 600 mins 500 texts and unlimited internet for £15 / month - and if they give me loyalty, it could be less...

or, i'm tempted to go to voda and take advantage of the better usage of the 3g network.

Looks like i'll be at the very least pushing t-mobile for a good deal or asking for the pac code.

-in general, how do you cancel a mobile contract? -do you have to write to them? or can you do it over the phone?

Best to go into a store and say my contract is up please give me my PAC code. (If your contract is up they cannot refuse) Then take your PAC code to which ever network you want to switch to. To keep your mobile number you'll need to tell them your PAC code. I believe it can take a couple of days to transfer a number but I'm not sure, probably best to ask the network your moving to. I'm not even sure of you can use your old SIM until the number is transferred between networks, finally getting a final bill from your old network making the transition seemless. You shouldn't have to sign anything to end a contract. It automatically becomes a 'rolling' month to month contract should it's term expire which you can ask to terminate any time.

So far, T-mobile hasn't come up with any loyalty -they want me to pay £15 / month for 600 mins, 500 texts and unlimited browsing -so i'm not that impressed.

Voda have offered me £20 / month for 600 mins unlimited texts unlimited browsing -they dont do what I want for £15 /month

and THREE are offering 300 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited browsing for £15.00 /month -could do with a ew more minutes- but I can live with 300

-i'm tempted to use THREE since they are the cheapest and claim to be the biggest 3G network.

Thing is- are THREE any good? - anyone recommend them?
