Default VGA panels - about time, isn't it?

I love my N95-1, and will most likely upgrade to either the N81 or N82 - unless a decent mobile is released in the UK with a VGA panel, and decent hardware support for video (notably full size avi's, as that is what my video collection consists of).

However, a brief investigation reveals that there are no phones out in the UK with VGA panels, and it looks like Nokia have ditched the higher res screens that were seen in the likes of the N80.

It's a shame I think, and about time this was remedied in some of the upcoming N-Series, surely?

Same with a decent xenon flash actually - the N82 hasn't officially been announced as far as I'm aware, before anyone pipes up!

Yep- there are no devices currently available with a xenon flash from Nokia- and you are correct, until the N82 is officially announced, it's not a valid argument.

However, in the Q&A I reported on from LA, the team did say that they are commited to visual quality with regards to the screen. In their words, if it means adding more pixels, then so be it. Our markets just don't demand the VGA screens strongly enough like some Asian markets. Nokia has been focused on other things, but I thinl this could very well be something that will be tackled very soon.

That being said, I completely agree- it's about time we started seeing VGA screens in our high end Nokias.

Yeah a widescreen display would be brilliant, particularly as I tend to use my phone as a video player when on long train journeys.

Lol, we will have to wait and see whether the 'N97' will have a VGA screen; a rumour but seems like it will be true.
Im pretty sure that the N97 will either have a 352x416 display or maybe even a VGA screen. However, it is rumoured that it will have a 3" screen.

There is a thread on all its rumoured details, you guys might be surprised about it...

I'm not a fan of the unsubstantiated rumors. Where are you getting this from?

This rumour has been going around for ages. There may well be an N97 but not with that spec sheet.

Certainly not. I've seen the pictures of the mock up from that guy on the Nokia forum- the one everyone was calling the N96... the one in Romeo's avatar. I've even seen some super shady websites offering it for pre-order. You're right though- I assmue some day we'll see an N97, but not with that spec sheet at all!

I agree.
They cant have made that much differences and tweaks on the 'upcoming nokia' in such a short time from now.
I reckon that when the N97 is announced it wont be MUCH different from the N95, maybe a few changes to the RAM, added HDD, battery life, POSSIBLY camera but doubt it and obviously changes to the hardware such as the screen size and so on... .
But the spec sheet i have posted in the other thread is probably too good to be true and rather fake.
Just to see you guys' responses lol.

Or rather the spec sheet is too bad to be true.

At any rate, back to the discussion- my mate James Burland from Nokiacreative.com has a discussion about VGA screens- shoot on over an have a look.
