Help please !! (N78)

Hi there

This is my first post on the forum , but I have been browsing for a while , and the people here seem very knowledgeable when it comes to N series devices.

I have owned many different mobile phones over the years , but this n78 would be my first Symbian phone. So I am still getting used to the operating system and its limitations.

Please correct me if I'm wrong , but as far as I know , the N78 runs Symbian S6 v3 . And from what I have read , is backwards-compatible with older Symbian versions.

Now I have downloaded a number of applications , of .JAR , .JAD , and .SIS types. And the only applications I have been able to install are the .jar and .jad files. The .sis files all give me an error message when trying to install.

I have only tried 2 .sis files , but both of them are meant for S6 mobile phones .

Am I doing something wrong here ??

Could someone please explain what files are compatible with the N78's OS ?

Exactly what error message do you get?

I get one of two error messages , the most common being : installation of ...sis not supported , the other being : Expired certificate .

Just an update , I have since been able to get Handy Task Manager to install , but that would be the first .sis that worked.

While the N78 is S60 V3, its also got the new feature pack 2. All other phones except the 6220C are feature pack 1.

Like you say, its supposed to be backwards compatible, but largely it seems it isnt.

I have many problems with my 6220C, only a few programs work properly.

You will just have to wait for software makers to release new versions. Very annoying.

Well thanks for that bartmanekul ! I didn't know it went that deep !

Thought it had something to do with my actual phone settings or something.

But as you say , that is REALLY annoying , because some of the applications I have probably wont be released for the new feature pack.

I'm still puzzled about one thing though, what format of applications does s60 v3 feature pack 2 support ?I have managed to install both .sis and .sisx files now , what exactly is the difference between the two ?
