The current version's 3G is incompatible with ATT and Rogers. We need a "N82-3" which supports HSDPA on 850/1900 instead of 2100, just like with the N95-3.

I'm not exactly sure that it would be an N82-3... that's just the way it worked out, 8GB was planned before the US variant with the N95 line, so that's the reason it's an N95-3. At any rate- the lack of 3G is a complete deal breaker for me. I can't do without it. I want that xenon flash badly, but it doesn't come at the cost of 3G for me.
Hopefully something will be announced. I got a couple of North American contact from the Nokians in Finland last week- I'm gonna start rattling some cages on a lot of answers that N95 users want, and see what the deal is with a US variant for the N82.

I wouldn't be surprised if they named it "-3" anyways, to emphasize the 3G compatibility. Surely though all employees at Nokia USA must want this device to get a NA varient. Good luck ratteling those cages though.

Well... I think if that's the logic, -3 would be named so to emphasize the fact that it has no 3G for everyone else! :P
Remember, we're a large consumer base, but we're a pretty small part of the picture as far as Nokia is concerned. This is obviously still the case, since there's no love for NA again with the N82. Seriously though- I don't think there's anything to the -2, -3 or whatever. If there was, don't you think the 8GB would have been called an N95-8? No- I'm sure it's just a numerical thing based on when a particular project was started. I wonder if they're yet devising a plan for a black 8GB model? I know that a white N82 is apparently planned for release in Q1 2008. Seems funny that they're willing to talk about different colors, but not about something as important as a US variant. Especially when half the bloggers they invited to the announcement event were from the US...?
Really, the best bet we have for a US variant is to start making noise. A LOT of noise. Nokia listens, but you have to be loud.

Well I really don't care what they name it, we just want the 3G! You should make an editorial for the front page about it. And then get every other blogger to write one also!

I certainly would. I'm also on T-Mobile USA as some others mentioned, as such AT&T's 3G wouldn't impact my decision. I have no intention of switching.

Mariokarter- I've already got an article in the works.
krazykritter- Can I assume that you've not experienced 3G on a mobile yet? It's pretty wicked. I'll certainly never be able to go back to EDGE again. The N82 is fantastic, but without US 3G- I'll never buy one.

If i was living in the US, i wouldn't really get the N82 even if it had additional features such as the xenon flash and auto screen rotation (which should be seen on the N95 soon). Just the fact that 3G is a must in devices nowadays lol. Or maybe it's what i think...
But living without 3G would be pretty painful! lol.
I hear that there maybe an version for the US as the N95-3 was, anyone sure if this will happen?

And since i first heard about the N82, i always had that little thought that Nokia will also make a slightly modified 8Gb version, like the N95-2. In this case it would probably be the N82-2 lol.
I really doubt this is true, and i hope it doesn't happen either, it would be pretty pointless won't it?...or maybe not.

No- there is no official talk of a US variant of the N82. In fact, as I have mentioned several times, Nokia has specifically stated there are no current plans to release a US variant with the 850/1900 3G frequencies.
Also, mate- if you have something to add to your post, would you mind editing the last one if no one has posted a follow up yet? Double-posting and what not...
Cheers
