Nokia 5800 UK Price-Drop!

See the MobileFun site for a rather drastic price discrepancy between the 5800 models listed!

I contacted them about this and the following is a summary of the communication:

"Them: Welcome to Mobile Fun Live Chat, how may I help?

Me: Hi, can you please explain the price difference here? Thanks... Nokia 5800 XpressMusic - Red @ £269.62 & Nokia 5800 XpressMusic - Blue @ £468.42

Them: The difference is that the red version is full UK spec as opposed to the blue one which is sourced from overseas

Me: Ah! Thank you, does this mean that when the Nokia specced version is in stock, the price will remain the same, or is this just a pre-order offer?

Them: The price will drop down to around the same as the red version

Me: Thank you for the replies to my questions, much appreciated... Goodbye..."

So from this it would seem that the price of the Nokia 5800, when finally released in the UK will be as I first estimated, i.e. around 270GBP! :)

Only price (and colour), probably caused mainly by sourcing outside the EU, i.e. additional duty and VAT plus higher delivery costs and probably also higher purchase price to begin with, due to the phone being new and sought after.

That's only my well-educated (I hope) guess, not any official information.

"Them: The difference is that the red version is full UK spec as opposed to the blue one which is sourced from overseas"

I read this as meaning that the forthcoming red-banded one will be sourced from genuine Nokia dealer-supply agents on its UK release and not shipped-in from other markets... Meaning that the UK retail price sim-free will be around 270GBP, which ties-in with Nokia's projected UK pricing.

EDIT: I might add that on placing an order for the not-yet-in-stock red version, the page detailing the contents of my basket stated "Despatch due Jan 19th"... It now states "When stocks arrive"... I placed a (partial order) to check the postage and a discount coupon that I had... I did NOT complete the order.

If MobileFun can sell at this price although they aren't known by me as a place for bargain offers, then other more reliable and customer-friendly sources will perhaps match or even better it. I say this because on reading the small-print, I find that although they will honour the 7-day distance-selling regulations, there is a restocking fee of 15% of the purchase price... PLUS a load of other rather niggling announcements in their T&C's!
