Initial thoughts on your 5800

So those that have received your handset (and have had a chance to play) what are your initial thoughts?

I know the intenet is littered with reviews but as a community of N95 users, some of whom haven't changed handset since release, I'm interested in thoughts on the 5800 from an N95 user's perspective.

So, as today is release day for the UK and as many handsets have already landed, let's get the ball rolling, tell us what you think to your new toy!

After another 45 minutes of Nokia flagship store staff flapping about like headless chickens finally they found the one person who could make my 5800 "limited edition", i.e. load the software they either forgot to put on my handset or just had given me a standard one by mistake.

I can now report that I have the 3 short movies, BBC IPlayer, Sports Tracker, Dice Box, Touch Card Match, Touch Guitar, Touch Piano, Touch Popper and Touch Manuever. In addition I got a Nokia WH-700 headset, a voucher for 10 free tracks from the Nokia Music Store and two tickets for the Benicassim festival in July (to be sent to me when they are actually printed).

I am now starting to put on music and maps (it should have the UK maps preloaded, but I need Europe) and to customize it to my liking. Then I'll play with it properly. Looks like a long night ahead......

Woh there! Iplayer? Have you used it yet, does it work and can you 'send' or copy the widget?

Cheers

Edit: When i say work i mean is it the full version allowing downloading to view later. I really want this on my 5800!

I think its no different. You just had to queue and be the first 250 to buy the phone.

And as for the first impression, I feel the phone is a lot lighter and smaller than what I imagined and from what others had been saying. The interface is nice although there are minor annoyances like the new home screen but thats more personal, the touch sensitivity as others have mentioned isn't fantastic but it is however still very good in my opinion. Thats the first 15 mins with the phone so I'm still at it. The screen colours are also definately a lot nicer.

Yes - as a handset it's no different except for the extra software put on it in-store

Not quite -you had to pre-order in-store, queue and be one of the first 100.

I can't seem to make it download, only streaming at the moment, but have just started fiddling with it.

You might note that the same user wrote an equally scathing review of the 5800 mid December. Something not quite right there me-thinks!

I'd like to get that iPlayer widget too if its possible please! I tried v1.5 thats linked on this forum but doesn't come out right. I can however on the 5800's builtin browser visit iPlayer Mobile site fine.
