    Small problem with 5800

    Hi guys,
I had my phone arrive yestarday. So had time to look at it, Find it easy to use. Just one thing .... When the phone is not in use it swithes to sleep mode so to open it you have the small button on the side to flick,,, Quite often when I flick it back on the screen doesn't come on , Or I get lines across as if its trying to but can't...???

    Anyone else havin this problem???

Thought it may be the firmware mine is running on v10.0.010...

    Any ideas

One more thing download music from my pc , How do I get Artwork on it?????

    Thanks in advance

I can answer the second question. In order to see artwork you have to have the cover set as "front cover" in your ID3 tag. Programs like Mp3tag for Windows will do this by default when you set a cover. I had quite a few in my collection I had to redo with Mp3tag to make them work on my Nokias.

That definately does not sound right. I fiddled around with the phone for ages before updating to v11 and did not have that problem. I think it'd be best to contact Nokia or whoever your supplier was and get a replacement since its still in the 14-day cooling period, you'll get a free replacement quick.

Sounds like a 'dud' phone to be honest unless you've put something on it that it doesn't like perhaps? Try a reset by pressing *#0000#.

As for album art, I find the included 'Nokia Music' software good. Import the album you want to the software, right click it and select edit information. On the second tab you can choose the picture you want and it will automatically add it to every song in that album.

That would display the firmware version mate. You need to press *#7370# for a soft reset into the virtual dialpad.

Interesting. Where did you get your 5800 from?

To find your Nokia Firmware version, key *#0000#. The V##.#.### shown is your current Firmware! Please add these details with Nokia model to your profile. This information will help others help you. Thank you.!

*#7370# is a hard reset, the soft (or factory) reset is *#7780#.

The good news is, Nokia has shipped a million of these handsets now and this is the first time pretty much any of us have heard of this problem... The bad news is, it happened to you. Sucks, but Nokia will take care of you. Does sort of leave a bad taste in your mouth, though, doesn't it.

Nokia releasing a handset that isn't quite fully tested shipped with a cruddy firmware version and loads of problems? That's sounds familliar... About 18 months ago actually...

Sounds like a one off though, least it hasn't got a dodgey slider mechanism to annoy you!

Welcome to the Nokia beta testing program, you're not alone!
Motorolla S9, Sony MEX-5000, Proporta, Hollux GPSlim, Brodit Mount, Scoshe bluelife, Gear4 BlackBox, Plug-IT charm

    It's Broke?

Did you know that your Nokia comes with a 2 year warranty? Did you know that Carphone Warehouse are Nokia Repair Centres?
Damage from normal use: wobbly slider, broken keys, quiet earpiece etc... will be repaired for free, and usually the same day if you take it to a big store!

Sorry about that - sounds bad now I read it back. Wasn't a dig at you mate. The opposite in fact - I'm extremely jelous that I have to spend my money on bathroom tiles this month instead of a shiney new 5800

Next month I'll be there with you, faults or not, I'm getting one!

Well just received my 5800 and something's defo worng with the screen: goes suddenly blank, then shows some kind of horizontal faint lines of various thickness. Only restarting it solves that. An also the top border of all the icons/menu highlights are all fuzzy...

    not happy....

Got it from Nokiaretail.co.uk... This isn't Nokia officially (i.e. it is mobile phones direct) but they seem to manage "official" Nokia shops..all very confusing.
Anyhow they don't seem to sell sim free handsets..but I needed a new contract and they have nice cashback offers... red one still in stock..

    Nokia UK online shop = 249 +3.99 delivery = 252.99

    Play.com = 239.99 with free delivery.

I make that 13 pounds less, not 25.

    Can anyone verify this:

Just a heads up that Carphonewarehouse stores got stock today

They are selling them as 02 PAYG units for £209 but they are standard unlocked units with no O2 branding V11 software

    Hope that helps

Their website is not showing it on PAYG yet, only contract and handset only:

I tried calling a couple of stores close to my office, no answer, lazy sods. Will walk past them on my way home and post info, unless someone beats me to it.

Was it mentioned which stores, i.e. which part of the UK ?

Nope, that was it. No location on his profile either. Its a first time poster, so Im a bit dubious, hence wanting it verified.

I honestly can't see how they would be selling it handset only for 279 and PAYG for 209. Makes no sense from a commercial point of view and I tend to look at everything like that by default, job deformation I guess.

Exactly, thats the main reason I want some verification rather than making a new thread about it.

Otherwise, you just buy it and throw away the sim card.

Well I got my replacement handset from Nokia Retail (thumbs up to them, the turn around was quick) and this one looks like a keeper. woohoo!

I do have the infamous "gap" at the top right of the handset though... But I will eventually get a case for the phone so I suppose I won't see said gap and it won't annoy me

Looking forward to a day of mobile fun!

    shep1,

I used Nokia Retail, i.e. Our Nokia Stores - Mobile Phones Direct, rather than the Nokia website itself. They are "partners" of Nokia, and seemingly run their "high street" shops but they are not Nokia as such it seems. They only sell the phones with contracts I think. Good service though and friendly on the phone.
I received the faulty hanset on a thursday. Posted it back on the Friday after talking to them. They put the new one in the post on the Monday and I got it the next day.
No issues with the new handset.

Edit: the web link I entered self labelled itself "our nokia stores..."..Weird..
